Adam Driver Not Anxious to Go Back at Comic-Con After Unpleasant First Visit
When asked by TV host Graham Norton about his experience at the 2015 convention, the ‘Star Wars’ star recalls being stuck in his hotel suite to avoid fan stampede.
AceShowbiz -“Star Wars” actor Adam Driver isn’t racing back to Comic-Con after an unpleasant first visit to the fan event in 2015.
“The Last Duel” star, who first played villain Kylo Ren in 2015’s “Star Wars: The Force Awakens“, did not enjoy his first trip to the comic book convention in San Diego, California, because he could never leave his room.
Asked by British TV host Graham Norton if he enjoyed his time at the convention, he said, “No. I didn’t know the rules of Comic-Con. I got in at the hotel at two in the morning… and I’m like, ‘Maybe tomorrow I’ll go get a coffee.’ And they’re (Disney publicists) like, ‘Oh no, you can’t get a coffee.’ I’m like, ‘Well, maybe I’ll get a coffee in the hotel.’ They’re like, ‘No, you can’t get a coffee in the hotel.’ “
The film marketing experts explained to Driver he couldn’t make his own plans because he’d cause a fan stampede if he was spotted, and he’d have to wear a mask to stay anonymous. ” ‘If you want to go outside,’ they’re like, ‘Put a mask on so nobody knows who you are,’ ” he said he was told.
And after just one day stuck in his hotel suite, Adam was climbing the walls. “I opened my window, because I’d been in the room for 24 hours before this thing we were supposed to do, and then there was a band at the bottom of the building playing the ‘Star Wars’ theme on repeat, because we (the cast) were all staying in the hotel. It was scary.”
Although he appreciated the fans’ fervor, he’s not sure he’ll be back at Comic-Con any time soon. “I saw what it was,” he added. “I mean, it’s nice. (But) I’m not anxious to go again.”
