Our Yorkshire Farm’s Amanda Owen – aka ‘The Yorkshire Shepherdess’ – has admitted she spends her “whole life questioning” what she’s doing.

The mother of nine – who recently made headlines when she donned a polka dot bikini to herd cows in a heatwave – lives an extraordinary life on Ravenseat Farm alongside her husband Clive.

Admittedly, raising her brood of nine children alongside running a farm is no small task, and Amanda tells us there’s “no time” for mollycoddling. Determined to raise free-thinking, self-reliant children, she’s all for a loving, yet hands-off approach to parenting. But that doesn’t mean she’s immune to self-doubt.

Amanda, now 46, somehow manages to balance mothering nine children and the pressures of farm life with filming, writing and home renovating. The strong-willed, honest and all-round remarkable farmer comes across as having it all under control.

However, when we asked if she’d ever questioned herself, she replied: “Oh, gosh, if you don't question yourself then I don't think that would be the way forward at all.”

She continued: “Of course I do. I spend my whole life questioning what I'm doing, and how things are.”

Amanda recalled: “I got a phone call from school saying that the children should not take pond water to school in their drinking bottles. I was like, ‘It’s spring water!’”

Laughing, she explained: “Yes, it’s a bit brown, but they obviously thought it was out of a river or something.”

Speaking of school, Amanda said she’s sometimes left thinking, “Oh my gosh!” when the kids head off to school with “apple slather” down them and “all the rest of it.”

Amanda also opened up about the family not getting the chance to experience what others do, such as vacations abroad.

She explained: “After the school holidays, the kids will tell me about all their friends who have been on holiday to wherever and I think, ‘Mine haven't been on holiday.’ But then I instantly forgive myself and think to myself, ‘Look at it as a whole. Look at those kids. Look at how things are.’”

Amanda continued: “I ask myself, ‘Are they happy? Are they well adjusted? Are they taken care of?’ If the answer to all of that is yes, then that will do.”

The Yorkshire Shepherdess insisted that the Owens are “just like any average family,” despite their unique lifestyle.

“I mean, I haven't got the tidiest house. I don’t possess an iron or anything like that. But as long as they’re happy, that’ll do for me. It’s all about what your priorities are.”

We think you’re doing a cracking job, Amanda.
