Sura Selvarajah, 32, has hit out at Instagram after the social media platform removed one of her comments praising this year’s Great British Bake Off contestants. The Bake Off star said the comment was deleted by the photo sharing site due to “hate speech” concerns.
Sura took to her Instagram Story to make fans aware of the situation.
In view of her 33,000 followers, she uploaded a screen grab of Instagram’s removal notice, which cited the platform’s guidelines on hate speech or symbols.
She wrote: “@instagram since when was showing love and support to other bakers hate speech ????”
The comment that sparked the issue read: “We are all so proud of you.”
Sura became the fourth contestant to be eliminated from last year’s Bake Off.
The contestant failed to impress the judges during chocolate week, but many fans were sad to see her go.
Appearing on GBBO spin-off show An Extra Slice, she said she had “nightmares” about judge Paul Hollywood.
Sura said: “I had a nightmare and I woke up at 3 o’clock and I was like, ‘That went really badly’.
“I had numerous nightmares while we were in the hotel and prior to that I used to have nightmares about Paul kicking me out because I overslept and didn’t turn up.”
Sura’s fans took to social media after her exit to express their support for the star.
Drummergirl1971 wrote: “Sura’s actually really beautiful, with a gorgeous voice & she’s funny.
“She went too, too soon #extraslice #gbbo”
Clairejastbury added: “Loving Sura on #extraslice #GBBO
“I will miss her and her sense of humour.”
Aliza_96 penned: “Aww Love Sura she’s great can’t be watching the main show without her banter”
During the first episode of last year’s series, Sura accidentally knocked over one of fellow contestant Dave’s cakes.
She was swatting a fly when the unfortunate incident happened.
Speaking on An Extra Slice, she explained: “I was heartbroken for Dave.
“I was actually praying that Dave would win.
“To me it was just, I had knocked it over, please God, let him win so he feels a little bit better.”
