Shelley King revealed her abuse storyline has "changed so many people's lives" as she accepted the TRIC Award for Soap Actor.
The 65 year old Coronation Street actress picked up the gong during the glittering ceremony, which took place on Wednesday 15 September.
As she accepted the Soap Actor award, Shelley shared her pride over taking part in her character Yams' Nazir's abuse storyline.
Yasmeen's emotional storyline saw her fall victim to abuse from her cruel ex-husband Geoff Metcalfe.
As the abuse continued, Yasmeen was arrested for stabbing controlling Geoff after he threatened her.
In a lengthy and heart-wrenching trial, Yasmeen was finally found not guilty in December last year, as Geoff's cruel abuse was exposed.
Following on from the harrowing storyline, which touched so many viewers across the country, actress Shelley was nominated for a TRIC Award.
And, she was announced as the winner during the star-studded ceremony in London on Wednesday.
As she picked up the award, Shelley shared her pride at taking part in the storyline.
She said: "I am so proud of being part of this storyline about coercive abuse and I know, I've heard from so many people that it has changed so many people's lives and made them aware there is help out there."
Shelley continued: "Thank you to Iain MacLeod for letting me become a part of this storyline and for letting it actually develop over nearly three years, which in soap time is mega!
"And for all the directors and script writers and Johnny Harvey, who I first met in his first play many, many years ago.
