Dan Walker, 44, has reacted to reports questioning how he is “still” in the competition after his fellow contestant and show favourite Adam Peaty, 26, was voted off Strictly Come Dancing on Sunday. The BBC Breakfast host revealed he was “unsure” how he is still dancing on TV screens, but said it was a “true privilege” to remain in the dance contest for now.
Sharing a newspaper cutting questioning why he is still in Strictly, Dan typed: “I’m not sure but we are incredibly thankful for all the support and it’s a true privilege to be a small part of the biggest show on the telly.
“I know articles like this are sourced from a few comments on social media but each week I get thousands of messages from people who love the show and are really enjoying watching @nadiyabychkova teaching me to dance.”
Dan shared he previously took pleasure in watching amateur dancers in the show, as they developed their skills. He also reminded his followers it’s only a TV show.
He continued: “When I’ve watched Strictly in the past I have always liked seeing great dancers but also those who learn to love it and are working hard to improve every week.
“It’s a TV show and not the world championships,” he stated.
“I never thought I would be able to do some of the things Nadiya [Bychkova] has taught me. She has given me a confidence that I thought was way beyond me. I just want to learn as many dances as possible.
“Anyway… on with the American Smooth. Whoever you vote for this weekend… I hope you enjoy the show. I will continue to do it with a massive smile on my face,” he added.
In response, fans reassured him that they were enjoying watching him progress and told him to “pay no attention” to negativity.
Carmelbines commented: “Enjoy watching you dance every week Dan – keep smiling.”
While _Kevinpreston said: “Why do some people focus on the negative? We should be celebrating the fact that someone who never thought they could dance is still fighting for their place. (and clearly enjoying it) Keep doing what your doing, ignore this sort of stuff and what will be will be.”
Yesterday, Dan thanked fans for their support as he survived another week in Strictly Come Dancing with his partner Nadiya.
The BBC Breakfast host admitted he is “not the best dancer”, but is enjoying learning a new skill.

On his Twitter page, he said in a video: “I feel like I’m learning so much, and I’m trying to improve every week and I’m trying to listen to what the judges say and hear where we go wrong.”
Nadiya agreed: “You do improve every week, there is big progress. So proud of you.”
Dan continued: “Sad to see Adam [Peaty] and Katya [Jones] go, Adam has been brilliant, I have spent a lot of time with him.
“He got emotional because he is a brilliant competitor and he cares about other people.”
In the caption, Dan further explained: “Thanks again, everyone. I know I’m not the best dancer but learning new skills from @NadiyaBychkova is truly amazing and we are so glad so many of you are enjoying it every week.
“PLEASE DON’T WATCH THIS IF YOU DON’T WANT TO KNOW WHO WENT HOME!
“Bring on the American Smooth,” he added.
However, some Strictly fans flocked to Twitter to vent their frustration over the dance-off, as Dan had finished below Tilly Ramsay on the leaderboard.
Laura Jade tweeted: “WHO is still voting for Dan Walker!? Outstayed his welcome several weeks ago and is now getting to the point where much better dancers are going home instead of him #Strictly.”
Shirleigh wrote: “If it’s not Dan’s last dance next week, I’m calling fix.
“There’s no way he is at the same standard (or better) than Rose, John, AJ, Tom and Tilly. It still annoys me Shirley Ballas scored him higher than Rose yesterday! #Strictly.”
“Adam should not be in a dance-off again !! Fix!! #Strictly,” Knezo said.
