EastEnders shares first look at Patsy Kensit in Albert Square as Lolas mum

EastEnders has shared its first look at Patsy Kensit’s character ahead of her Walford debut in the New Year following the news of her daughter's deteriorating health.

Patsy, who earlier this year got engaged for the fifth time, is set to join the BBC soap for a short stint as Emma Harding, the estranged mother of Danielle Harold’s Lola Pearce.

Emma left Lola and her father behind when Lola was only three-years-old, and has never been seen on screen before.

After a series of troubling symptoms, Lola recently discovered that she has terminal cancer, and despite an emergency operation, she was later told that doctors could do nothing more to help her.

"We can try and slow the regrowths with additional treatments, but I have to be clear, this isn't curable," she was told at the time.

Now Lola’s mum will be coming to town, with scenes already filmed and ready to go.

Fans should recognise Patsy, 54, from her plethora of acting credentials, which include portraying Faye Morton on Holby City from 2007 to 2019.

Patsy has also starred in Emmerdale as Sadie King and had stints in Casualty, Tina and Bobby, Agatha Raisin and McDonald & Dodds.

Speaking of joining the show, Patsy said: “I’m so excited to be visiting Walford for this storyline. It has always been a dream of mine to appear in EastEnders. The cast, producers, writers and crew have been wonderful, and I’ve had a ball. Thank you so much for having me.”

The first look picture show’s Patsy standing in front of the iconic Queen Victoria pub while dressed in a blue shirt and accompanying beige trench coat.

Her signature blonde locks are tucked neatly behind her ears as she flaunts her emotionless expression.

Similarly, EastEnders executive producer Chris Clenshaw explained: “We’re delighted to welcome the wonderfully talented Patsy to the EastEnders family. She’s the perfect fit to take on the role of such a long-awaited character that we know very little about. Softly spoken and measured, on one hand Emma is the very opposite of her long lost daughter, Lola.”

“But on the other, there’s a striking resemblance; successful, the capacity to hold her own – if she says she’ll do something, she’ll do it – and she’s a fighter, just like Lola,” he added.

“Having spent a lifetime apart, Emma becomes desperate to make up for lost time, but her secret sadness and guilt are never far from the surface.

“The burden of losing her daughter has never left her, but can she find the courage to tell her shocking truth and reconnect with Lola, or will it come too little, too late? Patsy’s portrayal is bound to set off fireworks in Walford and cause havoc for the Mitchell household.”
