Good Morning Britain presenter Alex Beresford has defended Prince Harry after his latest comments on the Royal family.

Harry, 36, was interviewed by actor and writer Dax Shepard on his podcast Armchair Expert and made a number of fresh claims, including likening his Royal life to being in The Truman Show and saying that he wanted to "break the cycle" of the "pain and suffering" of his own upbringing.

The Duke of Sussex also opened up about his own mental health struggle and, once again, his decision to speak out about his personal life has proven to be divisive online.

However, Alex has defended Harry. He wrote on Twitter: “The beauty of a podcast is that you can hear the way it was said. Did you listen or did you read the media summaries. Side note: It is possible to love Prince Harry with the same heart that you love the Royal Family with.”

A number of fans agreed with the GMB host, with one writing: “I just wish people would leave them be. As adults we develop our own values and choose which of our parents values to leave behind.

"His choices to move away was always going to upset some, but the hatred shown to both H and M by some is vile. Everyones choices are valid. Be kind.”

Another said: "I love Harry. He did what was right for his family and he took a stand. He’s living his life the way he wants too. Why should he be hated for that!"

Not everyone sided with Alex and Harry though, as another person wrote: “Here’s the thing- I wouldn’t say this kind of stuff about my family to strangers-ever… let alone on an international format for millions to hear. I especially wouldn’t do it while my grandfather was dying, while my 95 yr old grandmother and my father were grieving. It’s cruel.”

Another claimed Harry was being hypocritical, writing: “The thing I can’t rationalise is how can he tell us all to be compassionate towards others while he publicly does the exact opposite towards his own family? What about their mental health? Or am I totally missing something?”

Since settling down in the States, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have signed a number of new deals and have a Spotify podcast, called Archewell Audio, which has seen them interview guests such as Elton John and former US president Barack Obama.

Their media deals and appearances also include their controversial tell-all interview with Oprah Winfrey.

The chat, during which Meghan made a number of bombshell claims and revealed her unborn baby is a girl, sent shockwaves across the Atlantic.

On GMB, Piers Morgan clashed with Alex during a discussion about the interview – and ended up walking off set live on air, before then leaving the breakfast programme for good.
