Jay Blades, 51, has, as revealed by his Strictly Come Dancing 2021 dance partner, been having a difficult time performing a particular move. The information was revealed by professional Luba Mushtuk, ahead of the show airing on Christmas Day.

Jay said that he is unable to dance outside of “dad dancing”.

He recalled how his family laughed when they found out he was going to feature in the Christmas special.

“Cor blimey, they couldn’t believe it, they laughed. I can do the Dad Dance, but I can’t dance formally!” said The Repair Shop host.

He explained, however, that he enjoyed practising the routines and the challenge of learning new dances.

Luba then confirmed that Jay did indeed have a difficult time adjusting to a more formal dance routine.

The professional said: “There is a part of the choreography where he needs to push off of me, and he has such a hard time doing it as he says I am a lady!

“But it has been wonderful.”

She confirmed that he was, however, a joy to be around and a pleasure to work with.

The dancer said that Jay was a “great student” and that she “adores” him.

Luba became a Strictly pro in 2018 and has been assistant choreographer since 2016.

Now being so close to the furniture restorer, she even discussed giving him Christmas presents.

But this wasn’t before Jay told Luba that he would buy her “a first-class ticket to go and see (her) parents in Russia, for you to sit down and hug them”.

Luba then replied, saying she would love to give Jay and his girlfriend dance lessons.

The TV presenter said that he would make it one of his New Year’s resolutions to learn to dance more formally.

“Me and my fiancee want to go to ballroom lessons, I want to learn the waltz and Argentine tango,” he added.

When they perform, the two will be jiving to the Only Fools and Horses theme song, Hooky Street.

Other celebrities involved in the show include Fred Sirieix, Mel Giedroyc, Anne-Marie, Moira Stuart and Adrian Chiles.

On December 9, Jay teased fans on Twitter with another TV Christmas special.

Greeting his followers, he grinned: “I’ve done a bit of dancing, so now it’s back down to… I think this is called the day job?

“And Strictly is the part time job.

“I’m dancing for the Christmas special of Strictly Come Dancing then you’re in for a real treat!”

The Repair Shop posted a festive image on their Twitter page and captioned it: “It’s beginning to look a lot like…
