Jimmy Carr has spoken candidly about attending an event held by veteran singer Sir Elton John, that almost cost the comedian heavily. The 8 Out of 10 Cats Does Countdown host addressed his “drunken” mishap with Chris Evans on Virgin Radio today.

His admission comes after the radio DJ told listeners about a charity auction being held at the network.

Jimmy, 49, revealed that he attended Elton’s White Tie and Tiara auction, where invitees have the opportunity to bid on a variety of items.

The British comic said he had decided to let loose at the event after not having had an alcoholic beverage for over a decade.

Addressing the moment, Jimmy asked: “Have you ever bid on something drunk?”

Chris chuckled: “Do you mean bid for a drunken person?”

The comic replied: “I remember being at Elton John’s White Tie and Tiara event. I hadn’t had a drink in maybe 12 years or something like that.

“When I started comedy, I didn’t drink because I was busy working on stuff.

“But I was at this event and I thought I’d have a little sip of something.”

The TV personality explained that he got a bit tipsy after a few drinks, before he started bidding on a particular item.

“I was quite drunk and I bid on an Audi painted by Damien Hurst,” he commented.

“But I bid way too much.”

The on-screen star revealed that he offered £200,000 for the custom-designed car.

Chris quizzed: “Did you get it?”

“Thankfully, the good people of Audi came in and bid slightly higher than me at the end,” Jimmy remarked.

He went on: “There was a moment when I sobered up at such speed. I was £200,000 in.”

Chris went on to clarify: “This was definitely pre-HMRC right?”

Jimmy laughed: “Sure. It was in the heady days.”

Meanwhile, the funnyman is gearing up for his latest comedy show which is set to air this week on Channel 4.

Jimmy is the new host of the quiz programme I Literally Just Told You.

I Literally Just Told You airs Thursday on Channel 4 at 10pm.
