Keith Lemon star Leigh Francis gives rare insight into marriage as he gushes over wife

Keith Lemon star Leigh Francis has spoken about his wife in an adorable new interview, saying she's his "rock" who sees the "real him".

Leigh, 46, may have been all over our screens in various guises for many years now, but he prefers to keep his family out of the limelight.

The star is best known for Keith Lemon The Film, Celebrity Juice and Bo’ Selecta! but now, he's given a rare insight into his relationship with his wife of 19 years, calling her his "rock" who he "loves more everyday".

"When everyone meets her, they say 'he is punching'," he told the MailOnline. "Why would I want to date anyone who looks like me? Everyone should punch above their weight when they are dating!"

Although they married at Allerton Castle in North Yorkshire in 2002, Leigh has been with his wife Jill Carter for almost three decades after the couple met as teenagers – when Leigh was 19 and 16.

The couple also have two daughters, Matilda and Dolly, although they prefer to keep them out of the public eye.

Although through his work as a comedian and presenter, you might expect him to be upbeat almost all of the time, Leigh praised his wife Jill for seeing the "real" him.

He explained: "Everyone thinks that we wake up and the comedy starts but it's not like that. She sees the real me, the grumpy me."

Leigh also praised beauty therapist Jill as a brilliant mother to their two children, adding: "She holds it together for in the family, Jill is an amazing woman. She is so special and is a brilliant mum to our kids."

Although his real name is Leigh Francis, he's best known to audiences for his character Keith Lemon.

However, in a rare interview, Keith once told The Sun that his wife had convinced him to collect the Best Digital Programme award for Celebrity Juice as himself.

He said: "I promised her Keith wouldn't be there so we could just have a bit of time on our own being normal.

"You can tell it's me instead of Keith because I've got my hair tied back into a tiny bun… My executive producer, Leon Wilson, said it feels like I'm coming out!

“But I won't be doing it again. I don't want anyone to know who I really am — I prefer being Keith. Everyone goes a bit weird when it's just me."
