Love Island’s Jess leaves fans stunned after she asks Luke M if Middlesbrough is NEAR London… in latest geography gaffe after ex-Islanders queried if Barcelona was in Rome

  • Jess Gale, 20, left her date and the viewing public stunned with latest gaffe
  • The student asked Luke Mabbott, 24, if Middlesbrough was near London
  • Jess isn’t the first Islander to struggle to find her way around a map
  • Last series some of the girls queried if Spanish city Barcelona was in Rome, Italy
  • The blunders echo that of the late Jade Goody who once asked if ‘East Angular’ was abroad while referring to East Anglia in Britain

Love Island’s Jess Gale left fans stunned during Friday’s show after she asked her date if Middlesbrough was anywhere near London in the latest geography gaffe.

The student, 20, was whisked off on a date with Justin Bieber lookalike Luke Mabbott, 24, however she was left baffled when he told her where he is originally from.

Luke told Jess he hails from Red Car, near Middlesbrough, but the reality star appeared to have no idea where it was and asked if it was near the Capital.

What! Love Island’s Jess Gale left fans stunned during Friday’s episode of the show after she asked her date if Middlesbrough was anywhere near London

Leading the discussion, the blonde beauty said: ‘I used to live in Cambridge with my family but now I’ve moved to London, because I go to uni in London. I study psychology. Where do you live again?

Luke replied saying: ‘Redcar’, before a confused Jess asked: ‘Where’s that?’

He clarified: ‘Do you know Middlesbrough?’

And when Jess queried if that was near London, he said: ‘Nowhere near London’, before bursting into laughter after not being able to contain his surprise.

Shock: The student, 20, was whisked off on a date with Justin Bieber lookalike Luke Mabbott, 24, however she was left baffled when he told her where he is originally from

Huh? Luke told Jess he hails from Red Car, near Middlesbrough, but the baffled reality star appeared to have no idea where it was and asked if it was near the Capital

However despite the gaffe, it appears Jess still may have a chance with the hunky plumber after he cheekily asked her if he could be her ‘reason’.

Jess said: ‘I wouldn’t say I’m a relationship type of girl I’m, not just in it for the sake of it, I like to believe everything happens for a reason.’

While Luke quipped: ‘Could I be the reason?’

Huh: Leading the discussion, the blonde beauty said: ‘I used to live in Cambridge with my family but now I’ve moved to London, because I go to uni in London. I study psychology. Where do you live again?

The hilarious exchange didn’t go unnoticed by viewers, who took to Twitter to express their shock at Jess’ lack of geography knowledge.

One shocked fan joked about what the Justin Bieber lookalikes response would be and said: ‘Loved when Jess asked Luke if Middlesbrough was near London and he was like baby, baby, baby, no. #LoveIsland’

Another referenced his northern accent and said: ‘She’s sitting there listening to him talk with a northern accent but still asks if Middlesbrough is near London? #LoveIsland.’

No way! The hilarious exchange didn’t go unnoticed by viewers, who took to Twitter to express their shock at Jess’ lack of geography knowledge

A third person noted that last week Jess’ twin Eve couldn’t work out where the mid point between London and Manchester was, despite studying geography at uni.

They wrote: ‘The twins out of #LoveIsland, one claimed to be studying Geography at Uni, but asked where is half way between Manchester & London.

‘The other one, was on a date with a lad from Redcar, she was baffled, he said it’s near Middlesbrough, she said is that near London? [hiding monkey face].

Can’t believe it! Many fans couldn’t believe their ears following the exchange

During the last series in 2019, the Islanders sent fans into uproar when they struggled to find their way around the map.

Viewers previously took to Twitter to discuss the ‘worrying’ conversation between Belle Hassan, 21, Joanna Chimonides, 22, and Jourdan Riane, 24, declaring it was ‘genuinely concerning’ because of their lack of basic geographical knowledge.

The footage showed Londoner Belle, who is coupled up with Scottish hunk Anton Danyluk, 24, claim she was shocked when the gym owner confirmed that his mum had a thick Scottish accent just like him.

Shocking: During the last series in 2019, the Islanders sent fans into uproar when they struggled to find their way around the map

The make-up artist told the girls: ‘I don’t know why I thought his mum would speak like me, I didn’t think she would have a Scottish accent.’

A shocked Joanna replied: ‘Has she?’ ‘Well yeah, obviously’, Belle replied.

‘Oh my God has she?’ asked Joanna, equally flabbergasted.

Belle – who is the daughter of actor Tamer Hassan, continued: ‘Yeah, did you just not think that mums spoke like us?’

Unbelievable: Viewers thought the conversation between Belle Hassan, 21, Joanna Chimonides, 22, and Jourdan Riane, 24, was ‘alarmingly worrying’ and ‘genuinely concerning’ because of their lack of basic geographical knowledge

Jourdan piped up: ‘Not when the country is Scotland!’

Belle then added: ‘We cleared up that Edinburgh is actually in Scotland last night.’

Joanna, once again surprised, exclaimed: ‘Is it?‘

‘Seriously!’ Belle said, adding, ‘Dublin is [in] Ireland did you know that?’

Really? The girls were confused about whether ‘Italy was in Rome or Rome in Italy’ and were also shocked to discover that Dublin was in Ireland

A geography lesson with the Love Island girls

‘We cleared up that Edinburgh is actually in Scotland last night’ (Correct)

‘Dublin is [in] Ireland did you know that?’ (Correct)

‘Is Italy in Rome or Rome in Italy?’ (Seriously?)

‘Rome is in Italy, Rome is the capital of Italy’ (Correct)

‘Is Barcelona in Rome?’ (Guess again)

‘Barcelona is in Italy’ (Nope)

Joanna then asked the others: ‘Is Italy in Rome or Rome in Italy?’

Proud of knowing the answer, Jourdan said: ‘Rome is in Italy, Rome is the capital of Italy.’

A suspicious Belle pushed: ‘Is it? Is Barcelona in Rome?’

Jourdan then responded, completely deadpan: ‘Barcelona is in Italy.’

‘I thought it was Spanish’, Belle mused.

Absolutely baffled, fans of the hit series took to Twitter to discuss three beauties’ shocking comments.

One wrote: ‘OMG, this isn’t even funny and is genuinely concerning.’

Another added: ‘People laugh and find this funny but it’s alarmingly worrying. People aspire to be on this s**t these days instead of something worthwhile. The worlds gone to pot.’

Wow: Absolutely baffled, fans of the hit series took to Twitter to discuss three beauties’ shocking comments

‘”Barcelona is in Italy”. Words fail me. There are young girls watching who see the contestants as role models, people to be admired. We are making brainless stupidity something to be aspired to. #ScrapLoveIsland’ contributed a social media user.

Others typed: ‘Wow the new girls are another level dumbos’ and ‘They seem prepared for their incoming career as influencers at least…’

‘My poor brain cells’ and ‘My 11 year old daughter knows more than these girls… Come on ITV up the anti on your selection criteria’ jibbed watchers.

The Love Island gaffes echo the epic geography blunders made by the late Jade Goody during her time on reality television.

Her hilarious faux pas included calling East Anglia ‘East Angular’ and asking ‘… ain’t that abroad?’, while appearing on Big Brother in 2002.

Jade, who went on to win the series, also labelled herself ‘an escape goat’, meaning scapegoat, and thought Cambridge was a part of London.

Her lack of geography also extended beyond Britain.

She was heard to ask if they spoke ‘Portuganese’ (sic) in Portugal which she thought was a region in Spain.

And she mistook the Brazilian city of Rio de Janeiro for footballer Rio Ferdinand and claimed Saddam Hussein was a boxer.

Jade sadly passed in 2009 following a battle with cervical cancer.
