Nicolas Cage Stops Doing Karaoke After a Video of Him Singing Purple Rain Leaked

During The Hollywood Reporter’s annual Actor Roundtable, the 57-year-old Oscar winner also jokingly mentions the name of someone who leaked his karaoke video.

AceShowbizNicolas Cage has given up one of his hobbies. More than two years after a video of him singing “Purple Rain” went viral, the “Ghost Rider” actor declared that he has stopped doing karaoke since then.

The 57-year-old made the revelation when sitting down with Jonathan Majors, Andrew Garfield, Peter Dinklage as well as Simon Rex for The Hollywood Reporter’s annual Actor Roundtable. “Well, yeah, for me, karaoke was like therapy until someone videotaped my punk-rock version of Prince‘s ‘Purple Rain’,” he first said.

“It went everywhere and I said, ‘I’m not going to karaoke anymore,’ ” the Oscar winner further elaborated. Andrew then chimed in, “Don’t steal the gift from the world. You need to keep giving.”

In response, the “Pig” leading man explained, “Well, singing is therapy, I think. Absolutely. Karaoke’s supposed to be private. It’s like a prayer.” The “Spider-Man: No Way Home” star later quipped, “Nic is just using this platform to get out his gripes, I guess, the person who’s leaked the karaoke video…”

Following up the joke, Nicolas mentioned the name of the culprit. “Rain Man was behind the leak,” he said, referring to a horse that he rode while filming his upcoming western movie, “Butcher’s Crossing“.

“I’m so glad I got through that movie alive,” he shared. “Rain Man kept trying to knock me off and would try to run my head into roofs, and then I’d get off and try to be nice to him, and he would headbutt me. It was not fun.”

The said clip made its way online back in April 2019. The footage saw Nicolas emotionally singing the 1984 classic in a karaoke bar. It’s safe to assume that he channeled his anger through the performance since the video came just weeks after he ended his 4-day marriage to Erika Koike.
