Owain Wyn Evans has been part of the BBC Breakfast team since early last year when he joined the show as a cover presenter. However, during a chat with Express.co.uk, the weather star revealed he has actually known his co-star Carol Kirkwood a lot longer than that.

Chatting about their connection, Owain explained how they began their career together back in London.

He worked at the BBC as a producer with Carol for many years before landing his on-camera job.

Owain said: “I always think that Carol is such a great warm presenter, she’s a fabulous weather presenter.

“And I used to work with her actually because I was a weather producer for BBC Weather down in London.

“I produced the graphics and helped shape the weather story, that sort of thing.

“So I worked really closely with Carol for many, many years.

“And she’s just as warm and lovely as she appears on screen in real life.”

The pair know each other well and Carol even sent him a sweet message when he first landed his job on BBC Breakfast.

He recalled: “When I started doing the weather cover shifts, she sent me a lovely message.

“I just said, ‘All the best, you’ll smash it.’”

Owain has been a broadcaster since he was 18 when he started out on children’s television.

He presented the Welsh-language show Ffeil before going on to work for BBC Wales.

He began fronting the weather for BBC Wales Today in 2012 as he worked around the UK.

In 2019, he landed the role of lead weather reporter for BBC North West Tonight.

Owain has previously opened up about how some people see him on BBC Breakfast and think he’s only just come to broadcasting recently.

He said: “I suppose you have to go back quite a long time to fully realise where this started for me.

“People see me popping up for BBC Breakfast and think, ‘Oh he’s just started doing this. He’s new.’

“But I started doing weather back in 2012 and I was the first weather presenter really to do digital personality-based video forecasts when we had Vine back in the day.

“Since then, I’ve always thought about things that I’d really love to do and BBC Breakfast has been one of them.

“Being able to do these weekend shifts for them, it’s just been fab.”

As well as his weather presenting roles, fans of Owain can also catch him on The One Show and presenting on BBC Radio with Carol Vorderman.

He even recently fronted his own BBC Radio 2 show as he sat in for OJ Borg at the end of September.
