Strictly Come Dancing winner Stacey Dooley, 33, has revealed why one of her fellow celebrity contestants thought she was expecting a baby with her now-boyfriend Kevin Clifton, 37. The BBC champion set the record straight while speaking to former EastEnders actor Jake Wood, 47, and boxer Spencer Oliver, 45, on their podcast Pound for a Pound.

You’re expecting a little baby.

It comes after Jake, who starred on Strictly in 2014, mentioned to Stacey how he owed her and Kevin a “congratulations” after misinterpreting one of Stacey’s text messages.

The soap star divulged: “And listen, Stacey, we’ve got to give you a congratulations as well to you and Kevin.

“You’re expecting a little baby,” to which Stacey began to explain why she isn’t actually pregnant.

The BBC documentary film-maker admitted: “Well, this is a really funny story, Jake.

“So I was making a film in Bradford on a maternity ward, a panorama.”

Stacey, who was joined by Kevin, continued: “I texted you saying that I’ve had to change the date because these girls are expecting.

“So I was trying to explain why I was changing the date, and I read it back and was like, ‘Jake thinks I’m pregnant!’ So I’m not actually pregnant.”

After Jake realised what Stacey was saying, he interjected: “Oh S***! I was so happy for you!,” to which the stars were left in hysterics.

Jake went on to say: “I was so happy for you and Kev!

“I had loads of questions lined up about being a parent.”

Spencer then said: “We thought we had an exclusive!”

Jake went on to ask Kevin, who quit Strictly in February, how he was doing in their chat.

The professional dancer replied: “Yeah, good man,” to which the actor joked: “Much better knowing she’s not pregnant?”

Stacey proceeded to confirm: “I’m not pregnant. Well, not that I know of!”

Soon after, Jake continued: “That would have been a great way of finding out Kev, wouldn’t it?”

Their conversation comes after Kevin recently spoke about his fears for his future career on stage, having departed the BBC programme earlier this year.

Kevin’s concerns come after all gatherings were banned due to coronavirus lockdown measures which resulted in the closure of entertainment venues including theatres.

The performer discussed on his podcast The Kevin Clifton Show: “There are days when you listen to an interview and someone says, ‘The whole [theatre] industry might collapse. There’s not going to be a theatre industry.

“That means my whole career is gone. I then wonder when am I going to be doing something else again.

“The thought that I can now get on with some writing, I’ve always wanted to do that then becomes, ‘Oh my God, my life depends on this.'”
