Chaz A. Jordan's 1989 Studio FW23 Collection Reimagines Classic Wardrobe Staples In Monochromatic Fashion

Chaz A. Jordan revealed his definition of modern luxury with the unveiling of the 1989 Studio Fall/Winter 2023 collection during Paris Fashion Week. Staying true to the brand ethos, the collection is “…whatever you want it to be,” filled with straight forward looks in a mostly monochromatic color scheme.

The collection leans towards contemporary trends inspired by the late ’90s and early 2000s culture, with graphic t-shirts and oversized styling. While most of the collection was minimalistic, including mostly all-black ensembles that saw oversided hoodies paired with faux alligator leather pants and wool overcoats paired with a tailored suit, the collection also added printed tropical wool and faux fur to utilize textures to highlight typical silhouettes.

The label, which was born during the pandemic is rooted in culturally accessible luxury. Jordan has noted to WWD that since moving to Paris in 2013 and being a part of “Virgil [Abloh] and that whole crew,” his time in the fashion capital of France has been “super formative.” Beginning a new chapter with 1989 Studio, the range shown features basics like t-shirts, sweats and denim and key suiting and leather pieces that appear timeless and contemporary. In an exclusive quote to Hypebeast, Jordan discusses the mission behind his brand,

“The goal is to continue to create a reflection of the modern consumer and myself within the accessible products and productions that we produce.

Bringing a sense of fun and excitement back to the industry by staying true to ourselves.

I’ve watched the market become more receptive to that consumer and our culture even from a luxury standpoint with Virgil as the driving force for this shift.”

The brand is set to feature up to 3XL in sizing and size 40 in denim. Inclusivity is a top of mind with Jordan’s 1989 Studio, offering custom-made services for anyone else outside the size range. Previously, the label has ahd a series of pop-up locations across the world from Tokyo to London to Los Angeles.
