‘Halloween Kills’ Director Decodes Its Fear Factor in Upcoming Horror Sequel
Director David Gordon Green has officially confirmed he is upping the ante in adventure and action with the highly anticipated Halloween Kills.
In a recent interview with Total Film, Director Green weighs in on his expectations for the movie, prepping audiences for a more action-packed storyline in comparison to the previous one. With the upcoming film, Green is adamant about making sure the audience recognizes the in-depth emotions that can cause terror, “It’s one thing to be afraid of the Bogey Man…to have someone who might be in the closet, under the bed, creeping around your house… But [what] we wanted to explore next was confusion, misinformation, and paranoia. What happens when fear goes viral? You can’t just stick your head under the covers anymore.”
Similar to the original sequel, 1981’s Halloween II, Halloween Kills is expected to pick up right from the ending events of its 2018 predecessor. In the last film, the audience sees Michael Myers return to his hometown, but upon his arrival, he is chased by authorities throughout Haddonfield, Illinois.
The first teaser trailer shows Laurie Strode, played by Jamie Lee Curtis, her daughter Karen Nelson and granddaughter Allyson Nelson, driving away from the burning house where they last left Michael. The suspense is evident and draws fans in immediately with the plot continuation. Director Green explains, “When we made the last one we wanted to find a way for someone who’s never seen the original to get up to speed with the story. But this one gets right to the action. It’s very aggressive. It’s more efficient. We wanted it to be an explosive middle before things get streamlined and personal again.”
In the second trailer, fans have a better understanding of the thrill and gore that Green alludes to and can expect an action-packed sequel down the line. Audiences can rewatch this teaser trailer above.
Halloween Kills hits theaters on October 15, 2021.
