Jordan Brand Launches Inaugural Global Women's Collective Program
Jordan Brand continues to solidify its legacy and commitment to women in its inaugural global Women’s Collective.
The brand is launching its first women-focused program, recruiting a group of 33 female participants across Los Angeles, Chicago, London, Paris and Shanghai for six months’ worth of retreats, panels, events and mentorship. Each chosen individual will receive a portion of funds from a grant that will be applied to their respective communities. After their six-month program, the group will help to choose the next group of women to participate. The Jumpman brand revealed in a press release that the initiative is an effort to provide women with the tools, resources and support to drive change within their communities. The Jordan Brand promises that the program will not be a “product-incubator banking on cultural capital.”
The group of women selected come from diverse backgrounds, yet have shown their commitment to the sport of basketball and sneaker culture. Comprised of visual artists, DJs, entrepreneurs, skaters and more, the Jordan Brand encourages these women to use the funds how they see fit. The company hopes that the initiative will drive stronger communication and create a “curriculum design that encourages dialogue, fosters relationships, and strengthens leadership skills.” By recruiting members of the Women’s Collective, Jordan Brand is also hoping to make a change toward improving sizing and influential options in the streetwear community.
