Shazam Declares Drake Its Most Popular Artist

On the 20th anniversary of the service’s launch, Shazam has declared that Drake is the most Shazamed artist of all time. The rapper has over 350 million Shazams across his discography, counting both his own tracks and those he’s featured on.

For those unfamiliar with Shazam, the app makes music identification easy and accessible, solving the tricky problem of when a song is playing in the background but you just can’t seem to put a name to it. Since its launch two decades ago, Shazam has accrued more than 225 million global monthly users and surpassed 70 billion song recognitions.

While it’s not entirely surprising that Drake is coming out on top, Shazam has played a pivotal role in sharing music across the globe and introducing tracks to listeners who may not have come across them otherwise.

Drake’s most Shazamed song is “One Dance” with over 17 million Shazams, but for the rap genre as a whole, the most popular song on the service is “Can’t Hold Us” by Macklemore and Ryan Lewis featuring Ray Dalton.

Lil Wayne is another big name on the service, marking the first artist to reach one million Shazams in 2009. He would go on to hit another major milestone as the first artist to reach ten million Shazams only two years after that.
