Taylor Swift changes controversial lyrics on Better Than Revenge
Taylor Swift has finally released her version of Speak Now and with it changed the controversial lyrics to Better Than Revenge.
The pop icon has been working her way through her back catalogue re-releasing her classic albums following her ownership battle with former manager Scooter Braun.
Following the announcement she would be releasing Taylor’s Version of her 2010 album Speak Now, many fans wondered whether the single Better Than Revenge would also be given a revamp.
Ever since its release 13 years ago, one particular lyric stood out on the single that some have accused of slut-shaming, in which Taylor sings: ‘She’s better known for the things that she does on the mattress.’
In the latest version of the song, this line has been rewritten to: ‘He was a moth to the flame, she was holding the matches.’
The change comes as no surprise as Taylor, now 33, has spoken out multiple times about the subject of her dating life being criticised in the public eye.
‘I think the media has sent me a really unfair message over the past couple of years, which is that I’m not allowed to date for excitement, or fun, or new experiences or learning lessons,’ she told Glamour in 2015.
‘I’m only allowed to date if it’s for a lasting, multiple-year relationship. Otherwise, I’m a “serial dater.” Or “boy crazy.” The narrative has been so wrong, every time it was the same. It’s “Taylor spotted talking to this guy, she’s chasing him.”
‘They create a beginning to the story that didn’t happen most of the time, so then they have to create an ending.’

Though it seems not much has changed as rumours about her on/off relationship with The 1975 singer Matty Healy have dominated social media after the pair were spotted in public together while she embarked on her Eras tour in the United States.
Her eagerly-anticipated Eras tour is set to come to the UK and mainland Europe next year, with fans who signed up for the chance to buy tickets desperately checking their emails for a unique sale code.
Presale has only been given to people who preordered her latest album Midnights, and magic access codes will be sent out between 10am, Thursday, July 6, and 10am, Friday, July 7.
Fourteen more dates have been added to the tour, with pop-punk icons Paramore being announced as the Blank Space hitmaker’s support act.
