Watch Billie Eilish Perform "Happier Than Ever" on 'Fallon'

Billie Eilish appeared on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon to perform the titular track from her second album Happier Than Ever on Monday evening.

Joined by a drummer and her brother Finneas on guitar, Eilish’s live rendition opens against a backdrop of clouds, complementing the buoyancy of the track’s opening chorus and verse. As the tempo shifts for the song’s latter half, strobing lights usher in the abrupt change of tone, while Eilish’s signature headbangs and jumps take the track to fruition.

Following the performance, Eilish (virtually) spoke with Fallon about her new album, her upcoming Disney+ concert film Happier Than Ever: A Love Letter to Los Angeles, and her 2022 world tour.

“I didn’t know what I was going to do at all until really almost when the album was over,” Eilish disclosed of Happier Than Ever‘s creation. “I didn’t know what it was going to be called, I didn’t know what the vibe was going to be, I didn’t know what the artwork should be. I knew, though, that I wanted it to feel very specific. I wanted it to have a real feeling to it and a real aesthetic to it. And then there was just one night when I was listening to Julie London and it was raining and my fire pit was on … It just hit me.”

On her excitement to get back on stage for her world tour, Eilish told Fallon, “I’ve had like six dreams this week about shows. I’m dead serious. It’s been so long. It’s going to have been two and a half years, or two years, I guess. I don’t know. And that’s crazy to me so I can’t wait.”

Eilish then unveiled a sneak preview of Happier Than Ever: A Love Letter to Los Angeles, which is scheduled to premiere on September 3. The brief peek showed Eilish performing snippets of “Oxytocin” at the Hollywood Bowl.

Eilish’s hotly-anticipated sophomore album Happier Than Ever debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 albums chart on Monday, after selling 230,000 copies, including 153,000 traditional sales, following its release.

In case you missed it, Eilish released a live performance of “Male Fantasy” last week.
