Ye Enlists Zellerfeld Debut 3D-Printed Boot for YEEZY Season 9 Show
The creative formerly known as Kanye West debuted his YEEZY Season 9 collection earlier at Paris Fashion Week. The latest season saw the brand’s signature all-black dressed in oversized ponchos, puffer jackets and the new 3D-printed boots that fans have seen Ye sport on a recent day-to-day basis.
Ye enlisted Brooklyn-based studio Zellerfeld to create the full 3D-printed YZY boot that garnered great attention at Paris Fashion Week and worldwide. In the past, Zellerfeld has worked with other brands including Heron Preston‘s HERON01 shoe and AMBUSH®‘s 1002 Clog. With the help of Zellerfeld’s 3D-printing capabilities, the company has allowed many streetwear brands to diverge away from traditional silhouettes, creating new footwear in a matter of weeks instead of months or years. To put this into perspective, the boots were created just the weekend before the show. While 3D-printing has traditionally been constrained to non-functional prototypes in footwear, Zellerfeld’s technology creates functional, comfortable, custom-printed footwear.
The YZY boots were evidently created without any reference to the Three Stripes, perhaps signaling that YZY is going for a different direction of growth in the footwear industry. Take a closer look at the Zellerfeld 3D-printed YZY boots above.
In other footwear news, the New Balance 650 has surfaced in a muted greyscale colorway.
