11 Best Sunglasses For Kids 2021 | The Sun UK

CHOOSING the best sunglasses for kids is always going to be a chore —they never keep them on and there are so many to choose from.

But, to help make your choice a little easier, we've picked out some of the best options you'll find ahead of summer 2021.

Giles Edmonds, clinical services director at Specsavers, says that even on cloudy days, children's eyes can be exposed to UV radiation so sunglasses should be essential in any day-out backpack.

"For the best protection from the sun's UV rays, a relatively large yet close-fitting frame is the best design for children's sunglasses," he advises. "Make sure they cover a good portion of the eyes and look for durable features such as flexible hinges."

He explains that hinges are important for children's sunglasses as they can make the difference between them getting damaged or not during sports and play: "Hinges that have a spring action will decrease the risk of the sunglasses falling".

Like suncream and sunhats, sunglasses should conform to safety standards or UV rating standards.

"Look out for a CE (European Community Standard), BSEN1836 (British Standard) or UV400 markings," advises Edmonds.

"And aim for a pair that offer 80 percent light reduction."
