'Attack on Titan': Does Levi Ackerman Die in the Manga?

Attack on Titan Season 4 Part 2 premiered on Jan. 9, but the first episode didn’t put fans of Levi Ackerman at ease. Part 1 ended with Zeke transforming into a Titan, sending the Survey Corps captain flying. And the anime’s latest episode proves he’s in pretty bad shape. So, does Levi Ackerman die in Hajime Isayama’s manga?

[Warning: This article contains spoilers for the Attack on Titan Episode 76 and the manga.]

Levi Ackerman is in bad shape in ‘Attack on Titan’ Season 4

Attack on Titan Episode 76, “Judgment,” revealed that Levi lost a couple of fingers when Zeke transformed. His face was also torn up from the explosion, and he’s on the brink of death when Hange and the other soldiers find him.

Hange tells the Jaegerists Levi is dead, but Floch and his band of followers never get the chance to confirm as much. When Zeke emerges from the Titan remains nearby, Hange takes advantage of the distraction. The commander of the Survey Corps dives into the river and takes Levi with them.

The latest installment doesn’t follow up with Hange and Levi, leaving Attack on Titan fans to wonder if either of them is alive. For the answer to that question, they can look to Hajime Isayama’s manga series.

Does Levi die in Hajime Isayama’s manga?

Those worried about Levi Ackerman in Attack on Titan Season 4 Part 2 can officially rest easy. Although Levi is permanently scarred in the manga, he doesn’t die from his injuries — nor does he join the series’ many dead characters during the final arc.

But even if Levi doesn’t die in the manga, he does face a fairly tragic ending. He’s more or less the last older member of the Survey Corps still standing when the series comes to a close. He’s been put through the wringer both mentally and physically. Let’s just say he deserves a well-earned break when all is said and done.

And speaking of Attack on Titan‘s manga ending, viewers shouldn’t get too complacent just because Levi survives. There’s plenty of tragedy on the horizon as we head into the anime’s final episodes.

‘Attack on Titan’ fans shouldn’t get too comfortable

Although Levi Ackerman is likely still alive in the anime, Attack on Titan fans shouldn’t get too comfortable heading into the end of season 4. Hajime Isayama’s characters face plenty of adversity in the final chapters. Levi may make it through the last batch of episodes, but other major characters won’t be so lucky.

Of course, death and destruction are to be expected from the end of a series like Attack on Titan. Viewers will need to stay tuned to see how things pan out in the war between Paradis Island and Marley.

The first episode of Attack on Titan Season 4 Part 2 is currently streaming on Crunchyroll and Funimation.
