Best lip tints and stains from £3 to give lips long-lasting colour
Forget about your matte lipsticks until autumn; this summer it’s all about glossy lips and long-lasting, just-bitten stains – just ask Jones Road. The new brand recently launched here in the UK and was created by makeup legend Bobbi Brown (yes, the founder of THAT little company).
The brand is currently going viral on social media thanks to a very love-it-or-loathe foundation (more on that here), but sadly the base balm is yet to launch here in the UK. While we wait to give it a go, we’ve been able to put the brand new Jones Road Lip Tints to the test.
These glossy sticks promise a hydrating, glossy finish and a tint that lasts hours on the lips. So in celebration of the new launch, we’ve had our very own team of beauty testers review the Jones Road tint, as well as five other trending stains, to see which ones delivered on long-lasting colour.
Jones Road Lip Tint,£24 herein nine shades
Deputy beauty editor Zoe says: “What I don’t usually get from a lip tint is an initial moisturising balm-like layer, but this formula offers the long-lasting colour benefits of a tint with the feel of a hydrating balm – perfect. There’s a great colour choice for all skin tones, and I particularly like the pinky red Pretty, which transfers onto my lips as a punchy berry. When I say the tint doesn’t budge, it really doesn’t for hours and hours. I can already tell this is going to become a social media sensation.”
Typology Tinted Lip Oil,£17.50 herein five shades
Beauty director Lynne says: “Don’t be surprised if people see this and think you’re about to smear nail varnish on your mouth! Admittedly, the bottles are a little confusing to look at but what’s inside is lovely. The formula makes lips look seriously pouty in the glossy phase, before leaving behind a tint and a silky-smooth feel. Featuring a non-sticky formula packed with nourishing oils, this really lives up to the ‘makeup as skincare’ promise.”
Deck of Scarlet Threeway Solid Lip Oil,£25 herein 25 shades
Tester says: “This feels very rich and offers a highly pigmented sweep of colour. It also feels very moisturising but despite this, the formula doesn’t bleed or smudge at all. The oil slides on with ease, offering a lovely, smooth application and a beautiful strong colour pay-off. My partner thought it was very sexy…”
Charlotte Tilbury Tinted Love Lip & Cheek Tint,£25 herein five shades
Zoe says: “I have every single shade of this because after I tried it once, I knew it would be my go-to for daily wear. The shade Petal Pink is my perfect neutral, giving my lips a ‘lip blush’ style of tint. The stain lasts for hours – I’d say up to six hours with regular coffee drinking – and also works on the cheeks. My only caution is if you’re using it on your cheeks, be very quick to buff it out because the stain sets in almost immediately and won’t budge.”
Guerlain KissKiss Bee Glow Honey Tint Balm,£32 herein six shades
Tester says : “I love this lip balm. I was a bit afraid to apply the shade Poppy Glow because it looks like a very bright red, but gives the lips just a light wash of colour. Although the tint stayed on for a good few hours, the balm had sunk in quite quickly. I applied this before the school run, and my lips still felt moisturised and colour was still on two hours later when I returned home. I want to try the other colours now!”
Relove by Revolution Baby Tint Rouge Lip & Cheek Tint, £3 here in six shades
Tester says: “A little of this goes a little goes a long way, and it gives a lovely light, fresh lip and cheek colour. The formula is also very buildable, lasts ages and seems to be waterproof. I use the beautiful warm pink shade Blush, but the red Rouge also looks lovely. I also like that they’re affordable enough for me to buy all six!”
