Dopamine beauty: Fun, bright colours to make you feel good
You’ve heard of dopamine dressing – the psychological trend that says you should wear clothes that make you feel good – well, now it’s time to do the same in makeup.
‘How we dress has an incredible impact on how we feel,’ psychologist Danielle Haig tells Metro.co.uk.
‘Representing ourselves and how we want to be seen (or not seen) in a sartorial way can really improve your mood.
‘Think about putting on your favourite suit or uniform for work: It empowers you and created a mental trigger to be in “work mode”. Putting on your party shoes and sexiest evening outfit would make you feel completely differently.’
We can apply this same logic to makeup, whether we think about the colours, textures and finishes that boost dopamine.
Does glitter make your heart skip a beat? Do punchy reds make you swoon? Do you love how you look in a certain tone?
Time to cash in on that and ‘hack’ your mood by specifically picking little things, like makeup, that will start the day in a more positive headspace.
Not sure where to start? These are some of our top picks.
