Golden Globe Nominations Announced — Even Though They Won't Be Televised This Year

Snoop Dogg announced the noms ahead of a controversial ceremony.

The Golden Globe Awards and the Hollywood Foreign Press Association have been under heavy scrutiny for the past year — but, despite all the controversy surrounding them, the award show is going ahead as planned.

While it won’t be televised this year after NBC decided against airing it live, the HFPA still announced this year’s nominations on Monday morning — with Snoop Dogg, of all people, doing the honors.

Golden Globes Vows to Hire 13 Black Members After Publicists Take a Stand Against HFPA

It remains to be seen whether any talent will actually celebrate their nominations, let alone attend the event, after the organization holding it came under fire in 2020 in February for its lack of diversity, among other allegations. Of the 87 members earlier this year, not a single one was Black.

Back in May, NBC pulled the plug on airing the show. At the time, the network said, “We continue to believe that the HFPA is committed to meaningful reform. However, change of this magnitude takes time and work, and we feel strongly that the HFPA needs time to do it right. Assuming the organization executes on its plan, we are hopeful we will be in a position to air the show in January 2023.”

Tom Cruise even returned his three Globes following outrage.

For this year’s noms, submissions were not required by awards consideration — a first. Since the controversy, the HFPA has overhauled its bylaws, made new hires and added 21 new, more diverse members to its board.

For film, “Belfast” and “The Power of the Dog” came out on top, with 7 noms each, followed by “Don’t Look Up,” “King Richard,” “Licorice Pizza” and “West Side Story” with 4. For TV, “Succession” won the most noms with five, while “The Morning Show” and “Ted Lasso” nabbed four each.

Check out this year’s noms below. The show itself will go down January 9th — the same day as the Critics Choice Awards air on The CW.
