Johnny Depp accused Amber Heard of threatening to commit suicide “many times” after they would get into explosive arguments.
“Ms. Heard had spoken of suicide on a couple of occasions, so that also becomes a factor,” the actor testified in court on Wednesday for his ongoing libel trial against his ex-wife.
“That’s always something that lives in the back of your brain and that you fear.”
Depp, 58, further alleged that when he would attempt to leave, Heard, 35, would stop him and tell him she would “die” without him.
“Many times when I would try to leave, she would stop me at the elevator with the security guards, crying, screaming, you know, ‘I can’t live without you. I’m gonna die.’ But you had to get out,” he alleged.
Depp claimed that when he was able to “escape,” Heard would follow him to his home, even in the wee hours of the night.
“Five minutes later … she would arrive in her nightgown, screaming in the parking lot in front of my house. Screaming, heavens, it’d be 4 in the morning, 3 in the morning,” he alleged. “It was ludicrous, it was out of control, it was uncontrollable.”
Heard kept a stoic face as Depp gave part two of his testimony on Wednesday. She has yet to respond to the latest allegations in court.
As previously reported, Depp is suing Heard for $50 million for defamation in Fairfax, Va., over a 2018 op-ed she wrote for the Washington Post about surviving domestic violence.
Though he wasn’t named in the piece, Depp — who was married to Heard from 2015 to 2017 — alleges his ex fabricated abuse allegations in an attempt to score a huge divorce settlement, which has damaged his career.
On Tuesday, the actor claimed he never once hit Heard and sued her in order to “clear [his] name.”
“My goal is the truth. One day you’re Cinderella and then in zero point six seconds you’re Quasimodo. I didn’t deserve that and neither did my children,” he said. “Never did I myself reach the point of striking Ms. Heard in any way nor have I ever struck any woman in my life.”
Several photos that were allegedly taken during Depp and Heard’s marriage show the two with various wounds and have been submitted to the court for assessment.
Heard – who filed to divorce Depp in May 2016 after less than two years of marriage – has repeatedly alleged that the “Pirates of the Caribbean” actor physically abused her, claiming he’s a drug-addicted madman who threatened her life. Depp has vehemently denied these allegations.
The six-week trial, which started last week, is only just beginning. Paul Bettany, James Franco and Elon Musk are all expected to testify.
