More heavy rain and flood warnings but heatwave will return with 30C blast
Heavy rain will continue to lash the UK before hot winds arrive from the Sahara in coming weeks bringing three more heatwaves.
A yellow weather warning for rain is still in place with warnings of the threat of floods in affected areas.
Southwest Scotland and northern England will see occasional thunderstorms developing during the afternoon and evening.
The Midlands, east Anglia and north Wales are also affected by the band of heavy rain, the Met Office said.
After a day of showery spells yesterday, temperatures remain cool in the high teens and low 20s.
Met Office meteorologist Becky Mitchell told the Express: “More heavy rain to come on Sunday but also some warm sunny spells around.
“There’s some cloud as well as a bit of a mixed bag out there this morning.
“But the best of the sunshine is likely to be across parts of Wales and southwest England.
“Those sunny spells should last well into the afternoon as we go through the rest of the day."
The rain will gradually fizzle away but Britons will have to 'hang on to the bulk of the cloud for this evening', she added.
