My in-laws refuse to believe Im having a girl and threw a blue baby shower
Learning what sex your baby will be is a massive discovery for parents – and those who choose to find out are often filled with excitement.
But, one parent-to-be found that the moment was tarnished by the reactions of her family members.
The anonymous mum, who is 27, took to Reddit to ask if she was wrong for storming out of her own baby shower.
The party was being thrown by her in-laws, but she discovered they’d themed the day around the wrong sex.
She claimed that her partner’s parents refused to believe that their first grandchild was a girl even though they had been told it was at the scan.
So, they threw a blue-themed baby shower for their daughter-in-law.
The baby is due to be the in-laws first grandchild and apparently they had hoped to name the child after her husband’s dad who had died from cancer.
She also added that the in-laws had her “attend prayers and do rituals” in the hopes that the mum would have a boy.
The pregnant parent said she didn’t like these practices but did them to “keep the peace”.
When the doctor revealed the child would be a girl thugs quickly went downhill.
She wrote: “My husband cried in the car then turned his phone off to hide from his family then finally told them.
“His mum and the others made their frustration and disappointment clear which bothered me cause my daughter deserves to be celebrated.”
Now, the partner’s family constantly referred to her little girl as a son.
The mum fought with them over the issue and even stopped speaking to her husband after he sided with them.
She continued: “When I arrived I saw blue balloons, blue cake with father-in-law's name/decorations around. I was so confused I had to sit down.
“Sister-in-law explained they were 'still' hoping the gender results are false and it's a boy. I looked at my husband and he agreed with her.”
Raging, she shouted: “stop treating my daughter like she's unwanted” and walked out.
But, her husband sided with his family again and admitted they felt “insulted” by her snub.
He claimed she should “play along” and they would “get over it.”
She continued: “He was fuming, he called 15 times, then texted that he won't be coming home until I 'get my a**' over and apologise for ruining everything THEY'VE DONE FOR ME and accusing them of being mentally unstable.
“I haven't responded yet. He's constantly pressuring me to get right with his family before we even talk about anything else.”

In the comments, people were gobsmacked by the scenario.
One person said: “The fact that your husband is supporting them (and also delusional) is a HUGE red flag.
“Unless you want your daughter raised by a bunch of misogynists, I would seriously consider getting out of there NOW.”
And, another added: “These people are terrifying. Rituals and prayers followed by a baby shower for a boy? I understand disappointment or whatever but this is just too far.
“It's like they thought if the baby was a boy it would be the father-in-law reincarnated.”
A third said: “Does your husband know his sperm determined the baby's gender?”
