My sister's snide put-downs over lack of money are humiliating me

DEAR DEIDRE: I’M getting sick of my sister’s snide put-downs. I am 43 and she is 41.

I’ve been on benefits for three years since I injured my back in a car accident and she works full-time in admin for the local council.

She never misses the opportunity to criticise me and says “you’re welcome” whenever I buy anything.

I mentioned my flat is having new windows installed because there is so much damp in the bedrooms.

She moaned she would love new windows but can’t afford them because she has to pay for other people’s renovations.

How can I get her to stop humiliating me? It’s really getting me down.

Tell your sister how hurtful her comments are.

The next time she puts you down, change the subject and she will soon get the message.

If things don’t improve, you can let her know you won’t seek her company until she starts to consider her words more.
