The television and radio star posted this image of herself breastfeeding her six-week-old son Apollo while at work at Smooth FM this week but some social media users who saw it suggested the shot might ‘put pressure’ on other new mothers about returning to work

Response: Some social media users who saw the photo of Myleene breastfeeding while at work said the image ‘put new mums under pressure’. Claire9198 agreed, saying that the ‘back to work mama’ posts made new mums think they had to do the same

Lizziev007 defended her initial tweets saying ‘It’s a lovely picture but it’s added pressure to those not as fortunate’. Flavius designs said she didn’t think the snap of Myleene and baby Apollo had meant to hurt anyone

A debate quickly ensued after Myleene posted the image to her 296,000 followers about whether sharing such an image could be deemed unhelpful to those who are in the early days of motherhood.

Leading the charge, Lizziev007 wrote: ‘I’m not sure how I personally feel about this. It puts new mums under pressure I feel. Being a mother to a newborn is pressure enough. But work after 6 weeks? I’d just be mindful of those who are struggling with post-natal depression.

Others said that breastfeeding at work was admirable but ‘unrealistic’ for most working mums.

Alisontaylor50 wrote: ‘Hat off to you myleene! This baby is her third so she knows what she is doing. If she didn’t feel up to working I’m sure she wouldn’t need to. Obviously this isn’t an option for many new mums but that is just life isn’t it.’

Myleene, who has two other children, Ava, 12, and Hero, eight, with ex-husband Graham Quinn, gave birth to Apollo, who weighed 8lbs 5oz, in early August

Plenty defended the star’s right to share photos of her life as a new mum though.

jaystock789 added: ‘From one working mamma to another – if you don’t have anything nice to say, don’t say anything at all.’

‘Date night at the ballet’: Myleene, also brought her one-month-old child along to a dance performance with her PR boyfriend Simon

Last month, Myleene detailed her baby boy’s ‘complicated’ birth in a candid interview with Hello Magazine.

In the discussion, the musician revealed her third child’s name was inspired by her two biggest interests in life.

The doting mother explained: ‘Apollo is the god of music and science – my two passions. We thought it was such a strong name and at 8lbs 5oz, he was a strong, bouncing boy.’

While Apollo was a healthy weight, Myleene explained that the birth was ‘complicated’, revealing: ‘My waters broke and I was in the birthing pool.

‘We had a really easy first three hours, to the point that I thought we would all be home by 7pm.

‘But I don’t remember what happened next. I lost five hours of my life and it was a pretty complicated birth in the end.’

Myleene added that giving birth in her 40s had been ‘an extremely different experience’ to what she had been through previously.

However, with her baby now safe and sound at home, the Classic FM presenter gushed she knew time was precious and revels in the moments she is able to spend with her baby, even the gruelling night feeds.
