New dad opens up about mum’s ’inappropriate behaviour’ after sharing baby name
When a dad welcomed a newborn, some family members were fussed over the baby name choice.
The man took to social media to rant about the special moment when he introduced his daughter to her grandparents.
In a post on Reddit’s Am I The A**hole forum, the unnamed man explained how he and his wife had kept the name a secret until the birth.
He said: “New first-time dad here to a healthy little princess born this past Thursday. Unfortunately, the job my wife and I felt in this scenario was temporarily halted by my mother’s wholly inappropriate behaviour that I’m just not okay with.”
The man went on to admit that his mum has a “massive victim complex” which they’ve been dealing with for five years, ever since they got married.
He said how he sat down with his mum and told her to change her attitude – and while the chat might have done the trick, it wasn’t the case when the baby was born.

The dad continued: “The big day arrives and everyone is at the hospital. Baby is born, we had some bonding time as a family, then invited the grandparents (both sides) up to meet her.
"On arrival we introduced her and shared her name. My wife and I come from different religious backgrounds and thus different naming traditions.
"Mine is to name after a departed loved one, hers is to name after a living relative. So our compromise was to name her after my grandmother (mum's mum) who passed a while ago and make the middle name for wife's mum."
Everything seemed to have been going smoothly until the middle name comes up and the man’s mum loses it.
He added: "She's beaming that her granddaughter is named for her mother, then when we get to the middle name her face changes to a look of pure anger and she says 'YOU DID WHAT?!'"
The mum shared her disapproval and after a while the son decided to kick her out of the room.
He then said he banned her from seeing the baby until she’s “ready to behave like the grandmother we want our daughter around”.
Thousands of people commented on the post, with most Reddit users taking his side.
One replied: “BRAVO TO YOU!!! I read stories like this so often about mother-in-laws ruining baby births and I am really impressed at you for not only recognising the issues some time ago and having a serious talk with her, but also for stepping in and having her leave when she started throwing her tantrum."
Another added: "Who cares what you name your child. That is purely up to the parents to decide, no one else gets input."
