The royal couple decided to step back from their royal duties. They claimed they made this decision after they realized their son, Archie, wouldn’t get security because of a lack of title in their interview with Oprah.

This isn’t common given Archie should have a prince title once Prince Charles becomes king. But there was talk of this tradition being changed to exclude Archie, according to Meghan Markle.

The couple claimed it was then decided for them that they’ll completely be leaving their duties. This is after there were rumors they made this decision themselves and blindsided the queen.

“No. I’ve never blindsided my grandmother I have too much respect for her,” Prince Harry said. “I hazard a guess that [the story] probably could have come from within the institution.”

He then said, “When we were in Canada I had three conversations with my grandmother and two conversations with my father before he stopped taking my calls.” The couple claimed they were in Canada and were no longer getting paid. They claimed the news was released against their wishes and they didn’t have security. Tyler Perry offered them his place to stay at and security as they figured out what to do next.

Prince Harry says racism was a large part of why he left

Unseen clips from Prince Harry’s interview with Oprah are still being released. One was released on TikTok showing Oprah asking the couple if they left because of racism.

“It was a large part of it, Prince Harry answered. I remember that the Sentebale fundraiser one of that people at the dinner said to me, ‘Please don’t do this with the media. They will destroy your life.’”

He mentioned this person was friends with editors. “But he said, ‘You have to understand that the U.K. is very bigoted.’ And I stopped him and I said, ‘The U.K.’s not bigoted. The U.K. press is bigoted, specifcally the tabloids. Is that what you mean?’” Prince Harry said he asked.

This person stood by their claim that the U.K. is bigoted. Prince Harry said if the source of information is corrupt or racist then it filters out to the rest of society.

The prince also was open about the media’s connection to the press. He claimed some family members wine and dine with them for better press. He claimed the family is scared of the tabloids turning on them.
