After leaving the Hotel Ritz Paris, the two were traveling in a chauffeur-driven Mercedes when they entered the Pont de l’Alma tunnel en route to an apartment in Rue Arsène Houssaye while being chased by paparazzi, who were desperate to get pictures of the “people’s princess.”

During the high-speed chase, the driver of the car, Henri Paul, lost control and the car crashed into a pillar. As a result, Diana, Dodi, and Henri were all killed. There was only one survivor: Diana’s bodyguard, Trevor Rees-Jones. Though, he suffered severe injuries and spent over a week in a coma. For over 20 years, many people have considered the crash to be nothing more than an accident, yet there are still conspiracy theories that some believe.

So, what exactly do some conspiracy theorists feel happened? There are claims that the princess was pregnant with Dodi’s child, and as a result, the crash was arranged by the royal family. Other claims allege that the ambulance that transported Diana to the hospital was purposely slowed down in an effort to ensure that she did not survive.

In addition, there are theories that state the driver of the car was actually being paid by a national security service. One of the main reasons that some people believe that Diana’s death was, in fact, a conspiracy was because there are no CCTV images showing the car traveling from the hotel to the exact site of the accident. Although there were CCTV cameras in the tunnel, the crash itself was somehow not recorded.
