Strictly Come Dancing star Dan Walker proved public opinion wrong last week, as he impressed the judges with his first dance performance.

Dan, a journalist and BBC Breakfast presenter, surprised Strictly fans with his debut performance, with many writing online that they didn't expect him to be any good.

He and professional dance partner Nadiya Bychkova received an overall score of 24 from the judges, who were seemingly impressed with the pair's quickstep routine.

While Dan is best known for his presenting duties and journalism work, what is the star's life like off screen?

Dan resides in Sheffield with his wife Sarah, and their three children aged 14, 12, and 10. His family life remains private, with only small glimpses shared occasionally online.

He revealed earlier this year that he had been asked several times to appear on Strictly, but always turned the offer down.

It was down to his children that he decided to participate in this year's series, after they said it was one of the only shows they'd love to see him take part in.

Dan has worked as a journalist for over 20 years, and is best known for presenting BBC Breakfast and Football Focus.

He left Football Focus in May after 12 years of presenting the show.

It was recently revealed that Dan doesn't work on a Sunday, due to his Evangelical Christian beliefs.

The TV presenter has previously voiced his dedication to his faith, which he reserves Sundays especially for.

It was stated that due to his extensive work commitments throughout the week, Dan feels it is important to keep Sundays free.
