The perfect lockdown-friendly Valentine's Day date idea for each star sign

So, we won’t be going out out this Valentine’s Day, but that doesn’t stop it being a romantic, intimate evening for two.

You’ll just need to get a little creative.

Need some inspiration? Peek at these lockdown-friendly date night ideas and surprise your partner with something tailor-made for their star sign.

What star sign is your partner?

  • Aries: March 21 to April 20
  • Taurus: April 21 to May 21
  • Gemini: May 22 to June 21
  • Cancer: June 22 to July 23
  • Leo: July 24 to August 23
  • Virgo: August 24 to September 23
  • Libra: September 24 to October 23
  • Scorpio: October 24 to November 22
  • Sagittarius: November 23 to December 21
  • Capricorn: December 22 to January 21
  • Aquarius: January 22 to February 19
  • Pisces: February 20 to March 20

Have cocktails at sunset.

Aries is a Fire sign for whom the sun is a source of power and energy, so keeping them in its glow is a sure-fire way to keep all their relevant attributes up and ready for action, if you know what I mean.

Sitting in or on the porch, balcony, garden, conservatory or even bedroom window as you watch the sun go down (it’s around 5.15pm on February 14) with a few cocktails will help them relax and open up to you in a way you perhaps didn’t expect. Keep it chill.

Try a lounge picnic.

Taureans love food and lazing around, being chill, getting cosy, and indulging in their favourite fancies.

Make sure to ask them for a list of their favourite picnic foods; trust me, they’ll have one. Arrange a festive blanket on the lounge floor, put out a spread, pop a nature or outdoors show on the big-screen TV, and make believe you’re in the Alps, the Cotswolds, the Black Forest, wherever you think the perfect picnic would be.

Al fresco sex is also on the menu.

Do a movie night.

If you’re with a Gemini, you will already know about the boredom thing, in that they have the attention span of a gnat, and really need a steady slew of stimulus to keep them from spiralling off into all sorts of trouble.

Put on a show in the lounge, or bedroom, to keep the mood bright and brisk. Get the popcorn in, create a fortress or den-type seating arrangement, your own little back row at the movies. Smooching is allowed.

Schedule a scrapbooking evening.

Cancerians are naturally romantic and passionate, and you might need to say sooner rather than later that you’re in charge of Valentine’s this year, because they may well already be planning something.

A scrapbooking or memory-making (be it with photo frames or a slideshow) task will suit them perfectly.

Cancerians remember everything, and prompting them about your relationship visually will unlock all their thoughts and feelings about you, as your love has progressed. It will be a memorable event in itself, and you’re sure to learn how much they truly care.

Do a karaoke night.

Leos love to perform, even the quiet ones, and singing and dancing is just in their blood.

Invest in a few camp snacks, cocktails and baubles and turn your lounge into The Leo Lounge, an exclusive night of karaoke and drama.

You can download a karaoke TV channel now, or you may have one of those kids toys everyone seemed to get a few years ago. Blast out the tunes, and forget your worries and your cares.

Have a games night.

Ruled by Mercury, the planet of communication and intellect, Virgos just can’t help themselves when it comes to playing games.

They are curious, competitive, clever and cunning when it comes to games, and they’ll be enthralled if you surprise them with a little batch of new (well researched) adult games to try out, along with obligatory snacks and drinks.

The finale, obviously, is strip poker.

Create an at-home spa.

Librans are ruled by Venus and pleasure is their catnip. They love to be pampered, beautified, made over, and attended to (and that’s just the men).

Arrange a series of couple-friendly spa-like activities, maybe spread around the house: the foot spa, the massage bed, the obligatory prosecco lunch for two, the outdoors firepit.

Whatever you can get a hold of, add to the options on offer, and then just relax together as you tour and use your own home spa.

Give them a massage.

Sex is never far from a Scorpio’s mind, and massage signals right off the bat that there won’t be tooong to wait for the action to begin.

But first, who doesn’t like massage? Go all out to make this special by investing in some aromatherapy oils, create a luxurious massage station on your bed with soft blankets and pillows, and watch a few videos to pick up some techniques.

And make sure you get one too – Scorpios are natural masseurs as they are good with their hands.

Camp out in the garden.

Sagittarians love the great outdoors. They are the most animalistic star sign and a night under the canvas, in the back garden (providing it’s safe…), or even camped in the conservatory or balcony, may unleash a wild side of them that you’ve never experienced, or only get to see on holiday.

Make a little fire, or bring a candle, cook up some camp food (hot dogs, beans, jacket spuds) and use up that mulled wine left over from Christmas.

Make vision boards.

Caps need to know where things are going, what’s the plan, the schedule, the target. They are born organisers.

So, creating a relationship vision board is their cup of tea, and you will get more out of them about what they want to happen in your relationship than just through a straight conversation.

Gather as many pictures (magazines, books, printouts, newspapers, photos) as possible and decide on themes (home, work, travel, family, etc) and create little mood boards and goals for each. You might have to tear them away from this.

Turn your home into their favourite restaurant.

Aquarius is pretty task-focused and creative, so doing something practical and tangible together will get them interested and engaged (and you need that, because lord knows they can drift off into their own world often enough, right?).

Agree on your favourite restaurant, look up the recipes of the meals they do that you love, buy the ingredients, cook the dishes, lay the table, pretend you’re there.

If you’ve got kids, maybe they can be waiters, or just banish them to their rooms for the night.

Paint each other or write poems.

Pisceans are gentle and creative, and will jump at the chance to do something artistic with you.

Being given permission to share that side of themselves may also let them open up about their deeper feelings and hopes for your love too, which sounds a lovely way to spend the evening.

Who knows, you might even create something worth framing.
