TV chef James Martin slams horrendous margarine and says it should be banned

When it comes to cooking, we all have our preferences.

There might be many foods we wouldn't necessary use, while others swear by certain products in their recipes.

TV chef James Martin also has his likes and dislikes when it comes to the kitchen and there's one thing he believes should be banned.

The 49-year-old hates margarine so much that he actually wants it taken off supermarket shelves forever.

He is a big butter fan as he has written a book about the dairy product, but as for margarine, it's a big no.

Speaking to Express.co.uk, James spoke about his hatred of the ingredient.

He blames the lack of cooks in the UK compared to Italy, France and Spain and says they'd never tolerate margarine in their food.

Martin said: "Margarine should be banned. It's the ready-made food, it's the packet food, the hidden salt, hidden fat.

"It's dreadful, dreadful stuff – it's two elements away from plastic, it's horrendous stuff.

"I'm a farmer's kid. We've always had full-fat milk, butter, and cream. There wasn't such a thing as semi-skimmed milk in our house."

He revealed how it's a problem in this country.

The culinary mastermind added: "It's not the butter in a butter block or butter you put on your toast.

"It's the fact that not as many people cook in the UK as they do in France or Italy or Spain."

It comes as James lost 5st in two months after cruel comments from online trolls.
