A woman, who ballooned to 400 pounds after ‘eating her feelings’ to cope with a ‘toxic relationship’ for years, is now unrecognizable after shedding more than half her weight.

Pureness Taylor, a celebrity hair and makeup stylist from Toronto, Canada, said she was always ‘a little bit chunky’ but started to gain a lot of weight in her early 20s after she entered into an unhealthy relationship.

She said the relationship left her ‘mentally destroyed’ and feeling like she was at ‘rock bottom,’ which led to her gaining a lot of weight.

She grew to 400 pounds, and started to face health problems like constant headaches and knee pain due to her big size.

However, during the pandemic she decided to make a change and began intermittent fasting, and she has now gone on to lose 240-pounds, dropping down to an impressive 148 pounds.

‘Due to the weight, I remember so many times going to hospitals, doctors, and all these things  – I can’t breathe properly, my ears hurt, I’m getting headaches, this is happening, that’s happening, my knees hurt,’ she recalled of her heaviest time, during a recent interview with Truly.

‘And they would just turn me away and say, “You’re heavy. You’re overweight.”‘

The hairstylist said that eating was the ‘only solution’ she could find after going through a rough breakup.

‘Some of the contributing factors to gaining all my weight was basically having terrible, terrible relationships,’ she explained.

‘When I entered a toxic relationship, I was obviously eating my feelings. When it wasn’t working, I would eat, it was the only solution I could find.

‘Mentally, I was destroyed but smiling through it. I pretty much thought I was at rock bottom and that I wasn’t gonna get back up.’

Pureness decided it was time to turn her life around after she had trouble fitting through the gate at one of her clients’ houses.

When the COVID-19 pandemic hit in March 2020, she said she finally ‘looked herself in the mirror’ and realized that she ‘had to deal with what was going on inside.’

‘Finally, I started thinking I really need to change things, I really need to fix my life,’ she said.

What is the OMAD diet?

  • Pureness said the OMAD diet – which stands for ‘one meal a day’ – has greatly contributed to her 240-pound weight loss
  • The OMAD diet claims to help you lose weight by forcing your body to burn fat
  • Eating one meal a day is a way of manipulating how your body finds and uses fuel. When you don’t eat for extended periods of time, your body produces less insulin
  • Your cells still need energy for fuel, so your fat cells release energy to compensate. For this to happen, however, you have to avoid eating for long enough that your insulin levels drop.
  • Besides burning fat and losing weight, the diet could help improve your metabolism, make you feel more alert – however, it also claimed that it can cause an increase in blood pressure and cholesterol

‘When it really hit was when lockdown happened. I had to sit down and do absolutely nothing.

‘I looked myself in the mirror and realized that no matter what my circumstances were on the outside, I finally had to deal with what was going on inside.

‘I don’t want to go back to that sad woman that was literally sitting in the basement eating some food.’

She began by looking up weight-loss videos on YouTube, and she soon became involved in the keto diet – a very low carb, high fat diet – and intermittent fasting – an eating pattern during which you refrain from consuming any calories for an extended period of time.

Now, she is participating in a trend called OMAD – which stands for ‘one meal a day,’ which she said has greatly contributed to her 240-pound weight loss. She also goes to the gym.

‘People are like, “Oh my gosh, you’re starving yourself.” It’s not, I still get all of my calories, it’s just at one sitting,’ she insisted.

‘As I started losing my weight, naturally, I started getting energy. I was almost 400 pounds and now I’m 148 pounds and I lost 240 pounds. I feel like I am finally free.’

‘My weight loss has definitely changed my life in my mental space, my self love, my physical abilities,’ she gushed

She told others: ‘If you’ve reached rock bottom, be honest with yourself. Then, it will all fall into place.’ She is pictured before (left) and after (right) her weight loss

Besides burning fat and losing weight, WebMD also reported that the diet could help improve your metabolism, make you feel more alert – however, it also claimed that it can cause an increase in blood pressure and cholesterol.

Pureness concluded: ‘I’ve actually done what I didn’t think I could do. And here I am today to prove it to myself.

‘My weight loss has definitely changed my life in my mental space, my self love, my physical abilities.

‘I know I’m happy where I am right now and I feel good inside. If you are at that pivotal part where you’ve reached rock bottom, look at it, assess it and be genuinely honest with yourself. Then, it will all fall into place.’
