Home and Away Nikau stars life – steroids scandal, romance and Cameo cringe

New Zealand-born actor Kawakawa Fox-Reo has been dazzling fans on Home and Away playing Nikau Parata on the hit Channel Seven soap since 2020.

Fans of the long-running drama have been watching his storylines unfold as Nikau's relationship with Bella Nixon takes on a series of twists and turns.

Despite a series of dramatic storylines, off-screen the 24-year-old actor lives a glamorous life and has a lot more luck in the love department than his on-screen alter-ego.

From his blossoming relationship, steroids controversy and cringe worthy cameo vids, let’s take a look at the star’s life off-camera…

Steroids Controversy

Earlier this year the soap star was forced to make a public apology after he made a controversial joke about taking steroids.

Fans complained in their droves after the 24-year-old actor shared a since-deleted photo of himself at the gym on March 30, captioning it: 'I love steroids'.

The offending post received over 2,000 likes and 36 comments in the 12 days before it was deleted.

But not everyone saw the humour, with one Instagram user claiming she was unfollowing Kawakawa, while another branded it 'idiotic'.

According to a report by The Daily Telegraph , the post was deleted after the publication contacted Channel Seven, with Kawakawa then issuing an apology.

The star then issued the following statement: “'I know I have made a serious error in judgement with this post and I have deleted it,' he told The Daily Telegraph.

'I realise my attempt at humour was misguided and misleading and sincerely apologise.'

'Surely this is a joke? Pretty sure your producers wouldn't be a fan of you advertising roids [steroids],' commented one fan.

Added another: 'Ur [You're] a cool guy but please don't advertise drugs. Young kids look up to u [you].'

Sweet Relationship

Fans have watch his Home and Away character Nikau Parata's love life fall to pieces and face a series of drama throughout his storylines, but fortunately for Kawakawa his real-life relationship couldn't be more different.

While he often shares insights into his life of social media, the star is relatively private about his relationship with girlfriend Chantal Millar.

The stunning blonde has posted several cute couple snaps and plenty of beach adventures the two have shared, looking very loved-up and happy.

When celebrating Kawakawa's birthday last year in November, Chantal shared a series of sweet photos of the pair, giving fans a glimpse into their relationship.

"HBD to my mans," she simply captioned the post.

The photos featured moments captured of the couple at the beach, by the pool, out in the city, and just some good old selfies taken in the car.

Like Kawakawa, Chantal hails in from New Zealand, and is currently living in Australia.

Kawakawa's first official Instagram post with Chantal was more recent, where he shared a few photos and a video of the two together as they got involved with supporting The Kids Foundation.

"We wanted to quickly acknowledge how tricky things are in the world at the moment," Kawakawa said.

In the clip, the two sent their love to everyone who is suffering from the pandemic and the crisis in Afghanistan, and looked united as they 'put their hands up' to raise awareness for kids who need help.

Cameo Cringe

He may be starring on one of Australia’s biggest soaps but the star made fans cringe when he joined celebrity video site Cameo.

The actor began flogging opportunities to message him for as little as $6 and offering up personalized videos for as little as $90 ($74).

The star posted a video on the site saying: “I’m really pumped and excited to be hanging out with you through this platform – let’s hang!”

Another sees him slumped on the floor with a hoodie tied tightly over his head looking very tired as he wished a fan well who’s dad was sick.

The star has only amassed five reviews on the site but fans appear to be enjoying his videos.

One review from a super fan read: “Thank you soooo much!! I absolutely love it! Made my day and will make my birthday sooo special xx I love running my fan page and thank you for saying you’d follow it that means so much to me! Stay safe and thanks again!”
