How Many Grammy Awards Does Drake Have?
It goes without saying that Drake has become a household name. The Canadian rapper and actor rose to fame on Degrassi: The Next Generation and launched his career as a rapper over a decade ago. Since then, Drizzy has racked up a staggering number of prestigious awards and accolades in the music industry.
Drake’s smash music career
In 2006, while Drake was still appearing on Degrassi, he dipped his toes in the music scene with his debut mixtape Room For Improvement in 2006. His timeless mixtape Comeback Season was released the following year, and in 2009, he emerged alongside the likes of Lil Wayne with his smash mixtape So Far Gone.
Drake released his debut album Thank Me Later in 2010, which was certified Platinum with over 1 million copies sold. His follow-up album Take Care, released the following year, sold over 6 million copies and showed that he could do more than just rap.
Drake released his smash album Nothing Was the Same in 2013, which saw the 6 God collaborating with the likes of Jay-Z and other titan artists. NWTS was certified four-times platinum with over 4 million copies sold in the US. His highly-anticipated 2016 album Views sold over 6 million copies in the US, while his 2018 LP Scorpion sold 5 million domestically.
Drake released his sixth album, Certified Lover Boy, in September 2021.
Drake has 4 Grammy Awards
Over the years, Drake has gone from rap to R&B to pop and back again depending on the day and the song. As a result, he has massive mainstream appeal and has dominated radio stations for much of the past decade.
The Recording Academy has recognized Drake for his accomplishments over the years. Take Care won the Grammy for Best Rap Album in 2013. In 2017, he won two Grammy Awards for his hit song “Hotline Bling”: Best Rap/Sung Performance and Best Rap Song. He took home the Best Rap Song award again in 2019 for his Scorpion single “God’s Plan.”
In total, Drake has four golden gramophones to his name. But he’s been nominated for Grammys significantly more times.
Drake has 47 Grammy nominations
Drake received his first Grammy nomination before he even released his debut album: in 2010, his breakout single “Best I Ever Had” was nominated for Best Rap Song. Since then, he’s been nominated for Best Rap Song for the songs “The Motto,” Big Sean’s “F—in’ Problems,” “0 to 100 / The Catch Up,” “Energy,” and “Laugh Now Cry Later.”
Drake has been nominated several times in the Best Rap Performance category as well: over the years, he’s notched nominations for “Over,” “Fancy,” “HYFR (Hell Ya F—ing Right),” “Started From the Bottom,” “0 to 100 / The Catch Up,” “Back to Back,” “Pop Style,” “Nice For What,” “Laugh Now Cry Later,” Nicki Minaj’s hits “Moment 4 Life” and “Truffle Butter,” and Travis Scott’s “Sicko Mode.”
Drake first three albums were nominated for Best Rap Album, with Take Care being the one to take home the prize. His mixtape If You’re Reading This It’s Too Late and 2016 album Views were also up for Best Rap Album.
Over the years, he’s also been nominated in the coveted Record of the Year, Album of the Year, and Song of the Year categories, as well as the career-changing Best New Artist category. He’s also been up for awards in the Best R&B Song, Best Pop Duo/Group Performance, Best Melodic Rap, and Best Music Video categories.
In total, Drake has been nominated for 47 Grammy Awards and taken home four of them.
