The pair have just completed a headline-grabbing UK tour and now have more good news for fans, revealing they have secretly been working on new material together for the past three years. Beck posted the video for Depp’s new composition, This is a Song for Miss Hedy Lamarr, on his YouTube channel this afternoon, after the new album was announced. Beck said of the new track: “I was blown away by it. That song is one of the reasons I asked him to make an album with me.” Scroll down to watch the new video below.

The Hollywood actor had joined his friend on stage at every concert on his UK tour, which finished two nights ago.

During the June 2 show in Gateshead, Beck told the crowd: “I met this guy five years ago and we’ve never stopped laughing since. We actually made an album. I don’t know how it happened. It will be out in July.”

And now the musician has shared more details and explanations of the album title, as well as a first listen to a new track.

Adele previously famously chose 19 and then 21, 25 and 30 as album titles. However, Depp and Beck aren’t obviously using the number to indicate their age at the time of writing their new material.

Beck said: “When Johnny and I started playing together, it really ignited our youthful spirit and creativity.

“We would joke about how we felt 18 again, so that just became the album title too.”

Depp was equally effusive about his music partner: “It’s an extraordinary honour to play and write music with Jeff, one of the true greats and someone I am now privileged enough to call my brother.”

The new album will be released on July 15.
