Josh Groban sings very famous tunes, such as The Prayer and You Raise Me Up. His voice is a hit with fans, but he also is full of personality in his TV appearances. He has been on the scene for a long time, but when did he start singing and how old is he?
Josh Groban was born on February 27, 1981, meaning he is 39-years-old.
He was born and raised in California and had a very early entrance into the music industry.
When Josh was 16-years-old, he met some people who ultimately changed his life: producer David Foster and his future manager Brian Avnet.
He met them through his vocal coach, Seth Riggs, and through this he made some amazing strides into the music industry.
At the Grammy Awards in 1999, only a year later, Celine Dion was preparing to perform a song with Andrea Bocelli at the awards.
The pair’s song did not win, however, it did give Josh a chance to show his prowess with his vocals.
For the rehearsal before the awards, Josh filled in for Andrea and sang the duet with Celine.
This got him some attention which led to his career taking off, and soon he was offered a record deal, meaning he left college and pursued his career.
Josh spoke of this in 2018, posting to Facebook: “I owe so much to an early opportunity I had, I was 17 and in high school and asked to be a stand-in singer for Andrea Bocelli when he was stuck on a plane for the Grammys rehearsals. (Longer story how THAT even happened).
“A terrified, pimple-faced and blissfully naive kid sang his heart out that afternoon and the rest is history.
“Meeting him backstage when he finally arrived I just thought “how cool is this? What a world this is.”
“He went on to do the telecast and I went back to history class at LACHSA (who were so understanding and supportive).
“I didn’t have an inkling where my life would take me after that. The bridges left to cross.”
After standing in for Andrea he was offered small parts of Rosie O’Donnell’s show, which led to a short appearance in Ally McBeal.
He went on to sing with people like Sarah Brightman before his self-titled debut album was released on November 20, 2001.
He has released eight albums, with his ninth to come out in 2020.
Throughout his career he has performed on Broadway in Natasha, Pierre & The Great Comet of 1812, and 10 years after the moment he sang with Celine, Josh recorded The Prayer with her, meaning he was able to stand in Andrea’s shoes and perform once again.
This single was more successful than the first, debuting in the Top 30 in the USA.
Josh and Andrea released their own duet some time later in 2018, called We Will Meet Once Again.
His latest album, Harmony, is out in November 2020.
