Kehlani Details Why She's Leaving Tory Lanez off Her Deluxe Album

Kehlani‘s latest project It Was Good Until It Wasn’t was easily one of our 25 Best Albums of 2020… So Far. After dropping a number of her self-directed “quarantine style” music videos, the singer-songwriter has since hinted that her upcoming deluxe album is on the way. It will come with one major exclusion though: Tory Lanez won’t appear on her hit single “Can I”.

Kehlani revealed that she wanted to support her close friend Megan Thee Stallion and the alarming yet vague incident that resulted in Meg’s recovery from multiple gunshot wounds. At the end of July, Kehlani revealed the decision and removed Tory’s feature from the song’s music video.

Kehlani has yet to detail who will contribute the new verse on the deluxe album. In a recent interview with WGCI Chicago, the GRAMMY nominee opened up about the situation. “As someone with a large platform, as someone that people look up to, as a woman that makes other women feel safe and empowered, people were asking me, ‘Are you gonna keep somebody on it who doesn’t necessarily make us feel safe or empowered as a woman?’”

She continued, “This situation was involving someone that I’m extremely close to, so I just felt like on some loyal sh*t and on some do the right thing, you have to be responsible. Absolutely I’m changing up the record. It was business and it was also loyalty to a situation. This is not an industry friendship. That’s really my friend and someone I say I love you to.”
