Kerry Katona says she turned life around after negative ex George Kays death

Former Atomic Kitten singerKerry Katonahas admitted she’s proud of turning things around after ex-husband George Kay died of a drug overdose in 2019.

Speaking to Entertainment Daily, the 41-year-old said he was the “last negative person” in her life and often made her think about committing suicide.

“There were times when I did want to end my life. When my husband George was alive, I was very much controlled, I didn’t know how to get out of it," she said.

Kerry and George were married between 2014 and 2017, and despite having a daughter together, the star confessed those few years forced her into a “dark place”.

The media personality has started afresh as a busy entrepreneur after her historical battle with addiction.

Now, Kerry can focus on her new life with fiancé Ryan Mahoney, who has been instrumental in the journey to “self-love” she started before the loved-up pair met.

“I’ve had to put the work in. For me, it was also getting rid of the negative people in my life. And George unfortunately was the last of them. I just focused on me and started working on myself," she said.

In 2008, Kerry sensationally declared herself bankrupt after failing to pay a whopping £86,000 tax bill.

But the Warrington-born songstress has done a great job of bouncing back and recently made her first post-bankruptcy million pounds.

She said: “I think in society we get embarrassed and ashamed to talk about bankruptcy and money. My first bankruptcy, I was like, how the hell am I going to pay for these kids?… I was doing it all by myself."

Kerry said she also wants to help others stuck in the same position.

“I want to do seminars, I want to do a tour, I want to be on stage, I want to talk about businesses and how you can turn your life around," she said.

But she warned that, in the end, people have to help themselves.

She added: “You have to be your own cheerleader. As egotistical as that sounds, if you’re not going to cheer for yourself no one else will. Be your own hero."
