Listen to Taylor Swift’s Haunting ‘Cats’ Soundtrack ‘Beautiful Ghosts’
The Grammy winner’s studio recording will play over the credits, while Fransesca Hayward, who plays the Victoria the White Cat, will perform this song in the movie.
AceShowbiz -Before “Cats” hits theaters across the nation next month, Taylor Swift has offered fans a new original song that she wrote with theater maestro Andrew Lloyd Webber for the musical film. Titled “Beautiful Ghosts”, the haunting song made its way out on Thursday, November 14.
Backed by simmering strings and piano, Taylor can be heard yearning for an ethereal and exciting future, “All that I wanted was to be wanted/ Too young to wander London streets, alone and haunted/ Born into nothing/ At least you have something, something to cling to/ Visions of dazzling rooms I’ll never get let into/ And the memories were lost long ago/ But at least you have beautiful ghosts.”
Talking about the song in a featurette for the track, “Cats” director Tom Hooper raved over the lyrics of the song, “What I couldn’t believe was the extraordinary beauty of these lyrics that Taylor had written. It was as if someone has come into the film I was in the middle of making and read the script, met the actors, seen the world and reflected back to me a profound understanding of what we are trying to do with the movie. It was utterly thrilling.”
Taylor will not be singing “Beautiful Ghosts” in the movie. Instead, it will be performed by Fransesca Hayward, who plays Victoria the White Cat. The Grammy winner’s studio recording will play over the credits, though.
“Cats” is a movie adaptation of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s 1981 musical play, which was based on “Old Possum’s Book of Practical Cats” by T.S. Eliot. Tom Hooper directs the flick with a script provided by “Billy Elliot” writer Lee Hall. Besides Taylor, the movie also stars Jason Derulo, Rebel Wilson, James Corden, Idris Elba, Jennifer Hudson and Judi Dench.
The movie is scheduled for a December 20 release in the United States.
