Mel B says Prince William was speechless as he awarded Spice Girls star her MBE
Mel B can officially add MBE next to her name after being handed her award by Prince William in a stunning ceremony.
The Spice Girls star was joined by her proud mum, Andrea Brown, as the pair made their way to Buckingham Palace, several months after it was announced Mel was being recognised.
Melanie, 46, was left stunned when she received a letter from the Prime Minister informing her that he had spoken to Her Majesty The Queen about awarding Mel an MBE.
The singer who is an ambassador for Women's Aid explained that her award is not for her but instead, for fellow victims of domestic abuse.
Melanie said: "I never thought I would be here getting this MBE for the work I've been doing.
"It's amazing to have but it's not just for me – it's for all those other women.
"Especially because of Covid, there's been such an epidemic of domestic violence, that's been completely on the rise, and you know I've got an army of women behind me that need help and need to be heard."
The mum of three continued: "So I'm their voice because we've all been through exactly the same story, so I don't take it as it's my award because it's our award because we've survived."
While the songstress has racked up millions of fans over the course of her career, it appears that Prince William was starstruck as he handed her MBE to Mel.
"He commended me on all my work that I've been doing, and he goes, 'Im so sorry you went through such a horrible time'," she explained.
The For Once In My Life songstress continued: "He did say, 'I can't believe I'm giving you one of these – I'm delighted', and I said, Aw thank you' and we had a giggle."
Melanie claims that her turbulent marriage to Stephen Belafonte, plagued with claims of domestic abuse – which he denies, feels as though she's made "something worthy" now.
She said: "I've had a really amazing life so far and it was turned into something horrible for 10 years and I've made something worthy."
But despite rumours swirling that the Spice Girls will be gearing up to spice up the lives of fans, Melanie is taking a moment to appreciate her starring moment.
She said: "There's so much stuff but I don't want to say anything until it's actually happening and I don't want to jinx myself and I always blurt everything out first, so I'm keeping quiet this time – revelling in this moment."
