The 26th SAG Awards will go hostless in a bid to boost ratings

The 26th annual SAG Awards will this year go hostless, in a bid to boost ratings following on from the success the Oscars saw when they went hostless.

Held at the Shrine Auditorium, Los Angeles – the annual awards will honour the best performances of the past twelve months in TV and film, but, the show will go without a host, returning to the shows original host-free origins.

Speaking to Variety, producers for the show said they had decided not to have a host for the ceremony as they're hoping to increase viewing figures.

Producers claim that the opening sequence will feature nominees recalling stories while sitting amongst the audience while Robert De Niro will receive the Life Achievement Award and will also feature in a pre-taped segment.

Chatting to Variety, a producer said: "We’re going to look at what would have happened if a few of his movies didn’t have him but had somebody else in that role,

"So we’ll have a segment that's 'Movies Without Robert De Niro.'

"That’s something new — we're trying to inject a little levity into the evening."

During the history of the SAG Awards, the show had no host until Kristen Bell was presented with the gig in 2018, followed by Megan Mullally in 2019.
