Matt Lauer Denies 'False and Salacious' Rape Accusation, Calls Affair 'Completely Consensual'

New details of an accusation of rape against the former “Today” host emerged Wednesday

Matt Lauer was terminated by NBC News on Wednesday after the company received a complaint of sexual harassment against him. But that’s not the first time the longtime “Today” host found himself in hot water.

  • Rumors of extramarital affairs dogged Lauer during his tenure on “Today,” with tabloid reports linking him to other members of the show, including Natalie Morales. In 2010, NBC News finally responded to the allegations, calling them “completely inaccurate and unfounded” and “reckless and harmful to the Lauer family.”

  • Ann Curry was ousted from “Today” in 2012 as the show was losing ground to ABC’s “Good Morning America,” and after she issued a tearful on-air goodbye Lauer was widely viewed as the reason for her departure. New York Magazine later reported that the two had a tense off-camera relationship, and though Curry took the fall, Lauer was more to blame for the show’s declining viewership.

  • In 2012, Lauer was criticized for asking Anne Hathaway about an upskirt photo taken at the premiere of “Les Miserables” and attempting to make a joke of the situation by saying he’d “seen a lot of you lately.” Hathaway was praised for how she handled the situation, gently shutting down the line of questioning by saying it was unfortunate that the culture “commodifies sexuality of unwilling participants.”

  • In 2006, Lauer’s wife Annette Roque filed for divorce, alleging that she suffered “cruel and inhumane” treatment at the hands of her controlling husband. The two eventually reconciled and Roque, who was pregnant at the time, withdrew the paperwork, but the documents were obtained and published by the National Enquirer in 2014.

  • Lauer’s former co-anchor Katie Couric joked about his behavior in a 2012 interview with Andy Cohen. “He pinches me on the ass a lot,” she said, calling it Lauer’s most annoying habit. Video of the interview, which was handled jokingly at the time, was recirculated following his termination for a sexual misconduct allegation.

  • Lauer moderated a pair of NBC News town halls during the 2016 presidential election, which were widely slammed for the way he questioned the two candidates. Lauer repeatedly asked Hillary Clinton about her email server and rushed past other, more concrete policy issues. Meanwhile, he was perceived to have gone much softer on Donald Trump, failing to press the then-nominee on repeated falsehoods.

  • Lauer was finally axed by NBC News and removed from “Today” in 2017, after the company received a “detailed complaint” from a colleague accusing him of inappropriate sexual behavior.

'LPBW': Matt Roloff's Girlfriend Seemingly Hasn't Congratulated Amy Roloff on Her Engagement

There’s always something new going on with the Roloff family these days. We know Matt and Amy Roloff quite well thanks to their decade-and-a-half stint on Little People, Big World. And while the exes started the show as a happily married couple raising their four kids on Roloff Farms, a lot changed over the years. Now, Matt and Amy are divorced and in deep with their significant others. And Amy just announced she’s engaged to her boyfriend, Chris Marek.

Family and friends are ecstatic for Amy — but we’re not so sure how Matt’s girlfriend, Caryn Chandler, feels. There’s some known animosity between the two women that’s developed over time. And it appears Chandler didn’t congratulate Amy online.

Amy Roloff just announced her engagement to Instagram

Amy Roloff’s been dating her fiance, Chris Marek, for three years. They first met at a singles mixer event that was filmed for the show, but they didn’t truly make a connection until much later. And fans have had their suspicions that the two would eventually get engaged given how close they’ve become. Years ago, Amy claimed she wouldn’t be dating or tying the knot at any point — but we see now that her tune has completely changed.

Amy recently posted a photo of herself wearing her engagement ring to Instagram. “Guess what! I wanted to share with you- I’m engaged!” she captioned the post. “I was so surprised when Chris asked me to marry him. I said YES. I couldn’t be happier and so looking forward to this new part of our life journey together. I’m blessed. Love you Chris.”

Despite what concerns her followers have had in the past regarding Marek, it seems they’ve come around. All of the comments thus far on the post have been ultra-supportive of Amy’s future with her man.

Matt Roloff added his own special message to Amy

It’s not just fans who are showing their support for Amy, either. Matt Roloff added a photo to his Instagram showing him and his friend having breakfast together — and he captioned the post with a sweet message to Amy. “My buddy Ty and I got together for our regular Saturday morning breakfast today… He doesn’t do social media …so I filled him in on Amys exciting engagement news.. Congratulations to Amy and Chris!!” Matt wrote on the ‘gram.

Knowing Matt and Amy’s troublesome past, fans adored this mature and thoughtful post from Matt. Recently, Amy published her memoir, A Little Me — and in it, she added some scathing information about her past marriage. Not only did Amy claim that Matt was exchanging inappropriate texts and photos with his current girlfriend, Caryn Chandler, while they were still married, but she also noted some of his controlling behaviors.

As Amy wrote, “It would be best if everyone in the family went through Matt about everything, and he would communicate with the production staff on our behalf and take care of everything. … Matt would get upset if, after filming and off camera, I’d be talking to the producers.”

Caryn Chandler posted a photo of her and Matt just a day after the engagement news broke

Not only did Matt write his own sweet note to Amy on Instagram, but Amy also saw support from Zach Roloff’s wife, Tori, and Jacob Roloff’s wife, Isabel, on her post. But it appears Matt’s girlfriend, Caryn Chandler, hasn’t said anything about the engagement. Not only did she seemingly not comment on Matt’s post, but she also added her own Instagram photo of her and Matt just a day after Amy’s post. And we know there’s been a ton of tension between Amy and Chandler in the past.

In Amy Roloff’s memoir, she wrote about Chandler’s romantic relationship with Matt that occurred when Chandler was the farm manager for Roloff Farms. And Amy also discussed how uncomfortable she felt around Chandler on the show. As Amy once said, “Matt’s worked with her for many many years. So that will always hurt to some degree. But it is something that I will have to be an adult about — doesn’t mean I have to accept it.”

Perhaps Chandler is just sitting on Amy’s engagement and congratulated her in private — or maybe she’s just skipping out on the celebration altogether. We’re not so sure where Chandler and Amy stand now. But given Matt’s kind response to Amy’s happy news, we’re hoping the two women are getting along better now and can put the past behind them!

'LPBW': Matt Roloff Just Proved He's Involving Amy Roloff in Family Affairs

The last season of Little People, Big World had fans witnessing Matt and Amy Roloff during a critical moment post-divorce. While they started the show as a happily married couple with their four kids, they eventually decided to call it quits on their relationship. And the last season showed Amy making her biggest decision yet: Would she sell her half of Roloff Farms to Matt and move off the property, or would she stay?

Ultimately, we know Amy chose to sell her half — and her social media followers are now waiting to hear more about her house-hunting journey now that her son, Jacob, just had his wedding. And while many assumed Matt and Amy weren’t on good terms, Matt may have just proved the exes can co-exist just fine for family events. Here’s what he posted.

Amy Roloff wrote scathing information about Matt Roloff in her memoir

We saw Matt and Amy totally at odds this past season of the show — and after the season ended, Amy revealed new truths in her memoir, A Little Me. In her book, she explained that Matt was getting quite close to one of the managers on Roloff Farms while she was still married. That manager turned out to be Matt’s current girlfriend, Caryn Chandler. And Amy addressed their relationship again in a video, though she never mentions Chandler by name. “And I believe — this is all from my perspective — that there was more than just friends going on. And I think that evolved to a point where that got in the way of our marriage as well,” In Touch Weekly reports Amy said during a live video.

Amy’s comments didn’t go unnoticed by Matt, either. While he’s never come right out and said anything negative about Amy, he has left some clues on his Instagram. He captioned a post of a sunset, “@carynchandler1 and sitting here Amazed at the simple beautiful moon lingering brightly over the farm as if to say. ‘keeping taking the high Road. It’s the only one that matters. ‘! [sic].” And fans were absolutely sure he was referencing his ex-wife.

Fans recently wondered if Amy was part of this crucial moment on Roloff Farms

The dust has settled since Amy came out with her memoir, and she’s since been focused on her next steps in moving. We can’t forget that she still lives on Roloff Farms property right near Matt, however. And recently, Matt posted a photo of him with two of his sons right before they took down the iconic treehouse on the property. Since the treehouse demolition appeared to be a big deal involving all family members, fans wondered if Amy would be involved, too.

“Was Amy part of the whole family watching? I sure hope so!!” a fan commented on another post about the treehouse. And Matt actually responded to this query. “yes. Of course she was there! Silly question” [sic]. While many assumed Amy wouldn’t be taking part in an activity that involved both Matt and his girlfriend, this comment surprised many.

Matt posted a new video that has Amy in it

Not only was Amy in attendance for the treehouse demolition and Jacob’s wedding on the farm, but Matt just posted a video to Instagram that shows all of the Roloffs celebrating Jeremy’s daughter’s birthday. “Happy 2nd Birthday to the most precious, beautiful, smartest, toughest, intentional little girl ever. This Proud grandpa loves his granddaughter more then everything!” [sic], he captioned the post. And fans loved that Amy was involved.

“Matt and Amy do work good together,” a fan commented. Another added, “Amy and Matt good job together, I love to see you share together.” Yet another wrote, “Aww I Love this ! She is adorable! And I think it was so nice of you to ask Amy to help Ember! [sic].”

Despite their differences, it’s nice to see Matt and Amy coexisting for family events!
