Today Show anchor Al Roker, 66, and his wife, ABC News senior national-affairs correspondent Deborah Roberts, 60, have a made-for-TV love story: Roker spotted “one of the most stunningly beautiful women I’d ever seen” on an NBC News monitor decades ago and knew they were meant to be. Their story is one of the three featured in PEOPLE’s first-ever Love Issue, on newsstands Friday.

The two enjoy quiet nights at home — and they’re grateful for it, now that Roker has a clean bill of health after his recent treatment for prostate cancer. “She’s been a real rock,” he said of his wife throughout their journey.
