As EastEnders’ Liam Butcher is recast for epic return here’s what original star James Forde is up to now – The Sun

THIS evening, EastEnders fans were surprised to see Liam Butcher make an epic return to Albert Square – with Alfie Deegan taking over the role from original star James Forde.

Liam's arrival appeared to come completely out of the blue as he claimed to be supporting his sister Tiffany, but it's clear he isn't telling the full story.

The character hasn't been seen on the BBC One soap since 2015, when he and Cindy Beale left for Germany alongside her newborn daughter Beth.

And bosses no doubt recast the role after original actor James quit acting last year to become a builder.

The child star played the role of Liam Butcher on EastEnders from 2008-2015.

He was part of some memorable storylines, such as when he joined a gang, which involved him getting arrested and stabbed by one of the other members of the crew.

Since leaving the show, the 24-year-old is now earning his salary by working as a builder and this is a positive move for James, who received plenty of support from his fans in the comments.

The caption on one of James's Insta photos was "Bob the Builder".

Brilliant builder James is not the only soap star to have a normal job after they leave the spotlight, as another EastEnders star Katie Jarvis was spotted working as a security guard at Romford's B&M store.

Former Hollyoaks star Gemma Merna, who played Carmen McQueen on the soap from 2006-2014, quit acting to work as a yoga instructor and personal trainer.

Corrie's Martin Platt, played by Sean Wilson for 20 years from 1985-2005, left the acting scene behind to start running a cheese-making business.

Tom Watt played Lofty Holloway, an original EastEnders cast member, but left the show in 1988 and went on to become a sports journalist.

Liam is the son of former EastEnders characters Bianca Jackson and Ricky Butcher.

He is now back for a brief stint – but viewers are yet to find out exactly why he has returned…
